Re: How to improve mash tun flow through
I had this a while ago (commented in another forum I think). The problem was that the outlet under the perforated dome was being pushed down too close to the bottom of the mash tun blocking the outlet. I think I added an extra washer above the dome so that the thread didn't go down so low. Have a go...

Re: Smallest brew ever
Never tried it - if it's only a bit murky it goes in the fermenter, really thick dregs get ditched. Are you using leftover random yeast dregs as well? Dry hopping with brewing box sweepings? Bottling with different shape / size bottles and different colour tops I hope. If it's the best beer ever can...

Re: St Austel 'Proper Job' Cornish IPA - help please
Thought that was likely to be the case. Thanks. I enjoyed two bottles of PJ last night, but they were both sparkling clear. There was just a slight smear of yeast on one side of the bottom, but they were still nicely carbonated. Shows just how little yeast you need to condition. I've made a small (a...

Re: St Austel 'Proper Job' Cornish IPA - help please
Very interesting thread this. I'm about to brew what I hope to be a decent best bitter (yorkshire / TTL style perhaps). I was thinking I might try a different yeast - Nottingham seems to produce good results, but I'm after a bit more character. Rather than going for something like WLP002 or WY1469 (...

Re: Elvis Juice!
I think the salifert test shows at about 170, which if I remember correctly was in line with the water company report. It's fairly stable, and my understanding is that it's good for darker beers, but less so for light ones. Was just wondering how beer with such a distortion of fruit is affected by w...

Re: Beersmith 3 sale last day. Is it worth it?
Already have v2 - I've missed this sale I believe, but I'm sure there'll be another one at xmas / new year. Has anyone who's upgraded found anything new that was really lacking before, or is it just enough minor improvements that taken together make it worthwhile?

Re: Elvis Juice!
I love this beer and would like to have a bash at it.
I'm in an area with very hard water (south of Bristol) - any idea whether this would benefit from water treatment, or is it so distorted by the fruit that it doesn't matter at all!?

Re: How to fix watered down beer
Why not make a strong, bitter version of the beer and blend in a few proportions to make a few different beers of varying strengths and bitterness.

Re: Stuck mash
I had a similar problem a while ago with a very similar false bottom. A very frustrating brew day which saw me scooping out the mash into a muslin bag and making a temporary straining bucket. Fortunately the resulting brew was very good. I eventually realised the problem was to do with not enough sp...
