Re: Inkbird Grommet
Thanks for the advice Kev. I have decided to purchase some food grade silicon tubing (10mm outer diameter / 6mm internal) that will slide over the top inch of the probe. This will then fit tightly in the existing food grade grommet and suspend the probe in the FV. Fingers crossed it will work... Sen...

Re: Inkbird Grommet
During the first few days of fermentation the beer foams pretty vigorously and always touches the top of the FV.
In an ideal world I was trying to find a food safe and airtight solution.

Inkbird Grommet
I have just received my Inkbird ITC-308S temperature controller with the 12inch probe that I will be inserting into my fermenting beer through a small hole I intend to drill in the plastic FV lid. The probe is 6mm in diameter so I foolishly assumed that I would easily be able to source food grade gr...

Re: Experimenting With Cheap Kits
If you want to double the kit, with the same amount of water I assume, use the double amount of yeast. As you are thinking about LME, why start with a kit and not mix your own with LME? Easy variations are, dry hopping, different yeasts, maybe add a candy syrup instead of plain sugar (turn a pale l...

Re: Experimenting With Cheap Kits
Thanks for the advice everyone! I will refrain from doubling up on the kit then and instead just add the 1.2KG of liquid malt extract (mangrove jack light) instead of the recommended sugar. I also like your idea @vacant about splitting the batch down and maybe only dry hopping half. I am assuming th...

Experimenting With Cheap Kits
I like the idea of turning a cheap kit into a tasty brew by adding enhancers such as liquid malt extracts or hops etc and have recently been toying with the idea of doubling up on the actual beer kit. For example making a brew with two of the ‘young’s definitive lager’ kits only and using one of the...

Re: Increase ABV Without Sacrificing Flavour
Thanks everyone for the replies I will definitely look into the malt extracts for my next brew!
Would you all advice that even 500g of additional brewing sugar would be to much?

Re: Increase ABV Without Sacrificing Flavour
Thanks jocky I will look into malt extracts. For this particular brew through do you know if more than 500g of additional sugar will cause any adverse effects? I don’t want to add the whole 1KG bag of sugar and then find out it overwhelms the yeast halting fermentation, spoiling the batch or even wo...

Increase ABV Without Sacrificing Flavour
I have purchased the ‘Muntons Gold Continental Pilsner’ two tin kit and I will be adding 12g of bulldogs fuggles finishing hops and 500g of brewing sugar on the recommendation of my local home brew shop. The conditioning / dispensing will be from a corney keg. Question is should I add 1kg instead of...
