Bitter kit and Lager kit as a Toucan brew

Has anyone ever done a Toucan brew using a Bitter kit and a Lager kit?

Youngs Brewbuddy Bitter

I got a Youngs Brewbuddy Bitter kit for a tenner off ebay. Don't expect it's anything out of the ordinary. Has anyone made one and can you tell me how bitter it is? I was thinking of getting a Coopers Family Secret Amber Ale kit from Boyes for a tenner and putting the two together as a Toucan brew, ...

Re: Coppers Brew A IPA

I've got 25g of Ahtanum hop pellets that I thought I would boil for 10 minutes in a litre of water and the jar of Holland and Barrett malt extract, then dump the whole lot into the fermenter along with the kit and tin of light malt extract. Is it worth brewing it short to 21 litres or will it be oka...

Coppers Brew A IPA

Can anyone say what the Coppers Brew A IPA is like and any advice on what to add to the kit. I've just picked one up for £10 and have a 1.5kg tin of Coppers light malt extract and a 454g had of Holland jar of Holland and Barrett malt extract to use should I choose to.
Any thoughts please.

Re: Tom Caxton Best Bitter

Tom Caxton........... That brings back memories... Good memories I hope. Though I think the manufacture of beer kits these days is superior to my memory of it back in the 1970s when the tin contained a large proportion of barley syrup in with the malt extract and the quality of the yeast was questi...

Re: Tom Caxton Best Bitter

I don't use a bottling bucket so don't batch prime. I prime each bottle individually and bottle directly from the fermenter so I'm not really inclined to add any powder and stir the contents of the fermenter at that stage of the brewing process. Silas, Why don`t you use a bottling bucket? To make y...

Re: Tom Caxton Best Bitter

What's to stop tasting the beer after it's made and adding some or all of the powder into the bottling bucket with primings if you think it's needed? Dissolved first or you might have problems with nucleation and foaming! I don't use a bottling bucket so don't batch prime. I prime each bottle indiv...

Re: Tom Caxton Best Bitter

Silas - is the hop enhancement sachet a white powder made of hop extract (rather than actual hops)? I've made this kit before with good results. I would suggest adding half the powder and, when the beer has matured, decide if you think future kits would benefit from either more, less or the same am...

Re: Tom Caxton Best Bitter

Silas, Does the instructions indicate which is which? One of them may be bittering hops (25gEKG?) and the other flavouring hops (15g Fuggles?). Use all of them. The bittering hops I would do as WA suggests and the fuggles could be used as a flavouring hop, simmer for 10 mins or you can also blitz t...

Re: Tom Caxton Best Bitter

Well I've got two hop teabags, one with 25g EKG and the other 15g Fuggles, how best to utilise them with this kit?

Tom Caxton Best Bitter

Can anyone tell me anything about this kit? I am waiting to brew it with no embellishments, just a big standard kit and kilo using light dme, but my main question concerns the hip addition sachet. How much of the contents of the sachet is best to use? Has anyone made this kit and how did they get on...

Still waiting to brew this kit. I'm intending to get round to it in the next couple of weeks after getting a couple of ale kits brewed.

Re: After a long break I fancy a green ipa. . .

I have just ordered one of these from Hamstead Home Brew. Their own range only £9.99 and no doubt made by Muntons. Only 1.5kg I know but should be fine for a base to add whatever fermentables and hops you wish. I've not done one before but like you I was looking for a base kit for an IPA or a Englis...

Re: Horrible taste...? John Bull IPA

Wow, so I wonder how I manage to make very good beer using one can kits and the yeast that comes with them! I should add I never use a kilo of sugar with them.

Re: Horrible taste...? John Bull IPA

After 6 months I wouldn't worry about it - any small infections will develop in that time, only pasteurised beer is contaminant free, live beer will have some background bacteria regardless of how much effort you make to sanitize so 6 months at room temperature will probably help it grow. So yea, c...
