Re: Schlosser Altbier

It didn't all fit in the keg so there were three bottles as well, just tried one of them and was impressed, very similar to what I was aiming for, although a bit lighter in colour. Hopefully the kegged beer will be the same 🤞

Re: Fermenting in the kettle on all the trub?

Didn't Mashbag promote this idea a few years ago? Mind you, a lager style might not be as forgiving as an ale.

Schlosser Altbier

A friend has just brought me a bottle of this from Germany, and I'm impressed! Best bottled beer I've had for a while, so there's a challenge straight away, got to recreate this. Absolutely no idea where to start, anybody brewed an all grain altbier from scratch??

Re: Head retention

Nitro Jim - believe me, dirty glasses are not the problem in this case :) Eric, thanks for that always good to go back to basics sometimes. I'm considering going back to a small three vessel system, I just liked that more than the shiny all in one system I bought a few years ago. A two gallon setup ...

Re: Palmers Yeast

Well, to be fair, it had a long time to drop bright as I had forgotten all about the bottles! Brewed in January. Where are you based nallum?

Re: Adnams Southwold Bitter

Had a couple of days away at the end of October, stayed at the Eels Foot Inn Eastbridge, absolutely stunning Southwold Bitter, drank far too much of it :D Anyway, it rekindled my desire to replicate it, so there is 8L of the latest recipe just conditioning now, will give an update hopefully next wee...

Head retention

OK, I'll admit it's been a hard last two years or so, and my brewing has left a lot to be desired - disorganised and random would about sum it up! I've brewed quite a few beers in that time and been disappointed with quite a few of them. It's meant I've ended up with a large selection of bottles of ...

Re: Palmers Yeast

Definitely going down a rabbit hole... Unlike nallum I think you do need to find a suitable yeast, and it may be best to go back to the old favourites rather than the newer yeasts which seem to be more aimed at the hoppy beers. I'm drinking a beer brewed with Lallemand London at the moment, but I do...

Hop seedlings

A couple of years ago (I think) I collected some seeds from a batch of Ernest hops and planted them. Only one plant has survived, and I think this is it's second year, my question is, if it is female will it produce any cones this year, just so I know it will be worth keeping? Or is there any other ...

Re: What's the point ?

I was only looking this morning at plants that contain nootropic ingredients (there is a BBC article about low alcohol beers this morning that prompted me to look), and I've been wanting to make a beer flavoured with different herbs and plants for a while. Mine will still have alcohol in though =D>

Re bitter like you used to drink in the past have you experimented using sugars?
To be fair only in one brew, and that was only because I needed to up the gravity, it wasn't by design. It would give me a lower FG I suppose.

Re: The Great Reset (not the conspiracy theory!)

Umm, two of the beers you've mentioned, Exmoor Gold and Landlord, are way above the 3.6%--3.8% you're trying to brew. Not being difficult, just thought I'd mention it! Guy Didn't make myself clear there, in the last year or so I've been trying to replicate the bitters I drank as a youth, they would...
