Re: EQUIPMENT UPGRADE
On the separate subject. I've used Powell for both my herms hlt and boiler (my MT was from lardy/brewbuilder). Powell's stuff seems really good. My 100l boiler I was adding 2 3kw elements, he was really helpful over the phone, making sure they were the right heights for what I wanted/elements I was ...

Re: Keezer size suggestions please
I recently got a second hand chest freezer that will fit 6 kegs once I get around to a collar (last 2 on the shelf). It's 200L. But I spent quite a while looking at different sizes. Most 200l tended to be too narrow with the extra space being in the width. This one fits exactly 2 deep and 3 wide. I ...

Re: Temp probe length with quick disconnect
Thanks jocky. I had wondered, but thought the camlocks may be a bit cumbersome. But looks like it works well. And for the ease of all the spare bits I already have - definitely the way to go!

Temp probe length with quick disconnect
Hi all. I'm in the middle of a nice big upgrade to my garage and brew area and will be upgrading most of my gear in the coming months. I'll be building my own temp controller (planning to order aurber's ezboil). I've been looking at the temp probe connection and plan to have it either on exit of Her...

Re: Fermentation fridge base reinforcement
I sort of the glass shelf. But there is the lip at the back of mine for the condensation drain, I had to raise it by 1/2 cm to fit mine flat. So added just an old bit of ply. But the other main thing I did was using a old bit of 2x4 I have a support leg in the middle propped underneath the glass she...

Re: Conical fermenter advice
I've got both the older fermentasaurus (35l) and the newer 19l fermzilla. Both are great bits of kit. For anyone interested, the new one does have some great upgrades - the size of the butterfly is HUGE! But that does mean that the yeast collection tub is a pig to undo, even with the new gadget you ...

I'm still in planning phase for upgrading to herms so no real life experience.
But I know Peebee did a pretty extensive thread month or 2 on the positioning options of the probe.

I made it last year when having a break from full grain. Worked really nice. Very nice fruity bitter-sweet flavour to it. Would definitely make it again.

Re: Cost comparison - kits and grain brewing
I've always looked it that equipment is the hobby (amd justify the costs that way). ingredients as cheap beer. Ingredients can be a bit hard to hard to do exactly as normally you'd buy packs in standard sizes which might not be needed- ie 500g bag and only use 400g... obviously after a while you sti...

Re: Show me what you got ;)
@Orlando that is one mighty nice looking set up. Can I ask what extractor fan you're using/what rate it is and how well it keeps out the steam. I'm in the middle of planning a big herms upgrade (put on hold until electrician is allowed here to boost the juice). But I really struggle with condensatio...

In my last house I wired up a 30 amp supply to the garage but you can't do that DIY these days. Might get a sparkie in to see how much it would cost - me doing the cable laying from the circuit board and digging out the channel to the garage - and him putting a unit in the garage and hooking up. Tha...

That looks amazing - but no way I could hide a hole in the garage that size from the Mrs!guypettigrew wrote: ↑Sat Nov 02, 2019 8:42 pmOnce again, try one of these.
A major part of my lifelong collection of about 6,000 vinyl albums is in my brewery/garage. No way would I risk condensation getting to any of them.

Re: Brewhouse/Shed Wishlist
Some form of drainage (ideally a screed floor with multiple floor drains) would be my first choice for something that's hard to do later. On the subject of steam - extractor fans aren't very effective unless you cover the kettle and have a duct going outside. Or I would consider the idea of a steam...

Re: Upgrade questions- herms and panel builds
Hiya thanks... Was aware of the need for pid's, that was main reason for planning on trying to do panel at the time. Hadnt heard/thought of having a seperate smaller pot for the herms coil, only ever heard of it being in the hlt. Think for money/space side of things I would probably still want the h...
