Re: biab

Normally you'd have a mash temp that can hit both the beta and alpha amalase enzymes. So yeah, somewhere in the mid 60s would be ideal

Re: biab

Here's a chart showing the different mash temps. You're a bit high for the different enzymes to do their work

Re: biab

Any idea what temperature you mashed at?

And was the temp good and stable throughout the mash (and is your thermometer working ok?)

Re: biab

Would agree with Jim that it might just take a bit more time.

Another option is that maybe your mash temperature was a little high. This would mean you ended up making a wort that's less fermentable and would end up with a high final gravity. Just one possible option.

Re: Floating dip tube for corny

Thanks, this has all been really useful. I reckon I'll give the cask widget a go and see how I get on

Re: Floating dip tube for corny

Nice one. Did you have to do much to fit the cask widget - for example, was the length of tubing ok? And did you have any problem with the tube kinking or frothing? I'd imagine you'd either cut the beer diptube short and connect the tubing, or swap the dip tube for a gas post and connect it to that.

Re: Floating dip tube for corny

Sorry for the double post - hadn't seen your one on these floating take-offs.

A few people said they had more frothing using these, did you notice that? I'd probably be carbonating between 2.2 and 2.4 volumes most of the time

Floating dip tube for corny

Hey,

Anyone use these floating dip tubes on their kegs? Looks like it'd help avoid pulling up sediment until the kegs empty

Re: Recirculation pump

Aye, you'd only use the pump during your rests, maybe the mash out, but you wouldn't need to use it once the grains are out of the pot. I've got a braumeister up at work I brew 50litre small batches on some times, and the pump automatically cuts out at a similar temperature because of its heat ratin...

Re: Recirculation pump

Yeah, you're absolutely right. I use two jugs just now to do a sort of vorlauf, and try to clean the wort up as much as I can before boiling.

Re: Recirculation pump

Ha, yeah, I figured this wasn't going to be very popular. I live off-grid these days so I need to be careful with my water and electricity use - particularly this time of year when the solar isn't doing so much. I'm always interested in manually operated stuff, or things that run on 12v. Anyway, lik...

Recirculation pump

I was thinking about adding a recirculation pump to my kettle (long story short, I don't think I'll bother - I'm all about having simple setups just now). But in my search for pumps I found this bad boy: https://www.asap-supplies.com/pumps/manual-pumps/patay-manual-semi-rotary-pump-506713 Really tho...

Nice one, thanks, that looks perfect.

Then have you just cut a small hole in the door for the beer line?

Fridge for cornies

Hey, Can anyone recommend a make of under-counter sized fridge I could fit two Cornelius kegs into? Doesn't need to fit the gas bottle too, just the kegs. It's for a little local pub I'm doing the odd keg for now Been looking around this last week or so but not had any luck. It's in the UK if that h...
