Re: Control Panel Parts List

Hi there again. I am progressing with this a bit and have sought advice on the electric side, but it occured to me that the STC-1000 probe might not be food safe. Does anyone know whether there are any probes / temp controller relays which are definately food safe to be immersed in hot liquid? I'd r...

Re: Control panel build

Dont worry, I really don't trust any of the 40amp relays I've seen on ebay. I'm defo going contactors from a proper shop! Just was interested in what elipise used was all 😀 In terms of the isolator switch, I assumed he meant a switch on the panel somewhere and was a bit confused. I think he might be...

Re: Control Panel Parts List

Though due to surges and peaks it might be better to go for something bigger like 30amp or 40amp if you can find one... This also made me think couldn't I just use a surge protector block (assuming one exists) plugged into the mains socket along with 20amp everywhere? I am assuming this means it wo...

Re: Control Panel Parts List

Sorry for all the questions but I am reading and learning alot at the moment and each post brings more q's... Is heat inside the panel likely to be an issue without SSRs switching all the time? Would I need a heatsink? I am hoping not. Say if you have a choice of going lower voltage (assuming switch...

Re: Control panel build

Hi, I had a few questions about your panel as starting to design one for a distant future build. Which 40amp relays did you use? Where is the isolator switch? Is that directly after the key on / off in the circuit? Why did you use a 63amp DPDT for the power in? What voltage / amps is your input powe...

Re: Control Panel Parts List

Something like this? https://www.screwfix.com/p/british-general-20a-dp-contactor/6654p I have seen ones where you can swap out the relay if it fails as its plugged into a socket which would be good. However not sure if the ones I've seen are rated high enough for power to the 3k hob, unless anyone h...

Re: Control Panel Parts List

Also could I just use a relay rather than an SSR? If it saved the hassle of a massive heat sink it would be good. Not sure if I would need a fan or something too.

Re: Control Panel Parts List

An STC or other thermostat would probably be my choice in that situation, I've done exactly this (also combined with a timer) on several builds and they are perfectly adequate for getting liquor to strike temperature. A PID would be great for control but would keep switching the expensive induction...

Re: Control Panel Parts List

Thanks for the great explanation on the STC 1000. I actually have the 3k buffalo induction hob so not sure if that would be compatible with a PID in the same way as a normal element... I was thinking to just have sockets to plug the pump and hob into on the panel (I don't have a permanent space need...

Re: Control Panel Parts List

Another question: Why do people use PIDs rather than STC 1000s to control the elements? Would STC 1000s not also do the job?

Control Panel Parts List

Hi folks, Does anyone have an up to date parts list for a uk control panel? I am just starting out and found the electric brewery site a bit confusing as its US based. I'm sure folk do this all the time so was wondering if there was a sticky somewhere with ebay links or a step by step guide or somet...

Black IPA - Carafa Special Type II

Hi all, Going to brew a black IPA with a NEIPA hop bill and trying to work out how much Carafa Special Type II to use. For the mash: Pale Malt - 73.6% CaraMunich Malt - 5.4% Vienna Malt- 20.1% Acid Malt - 0.9% With RO water and additions should hopefully give me 5.4ph in the mash For the colour I've...

Re: RO water filter

Yeah, gone for a less minerally profile for this one as usually it is not an option when treating my water. I had to add a small amount of lactic acid to get the ph where I wanted it to be.
