Re: Hog's Back T.E.A. Clone - Beginner's Questions

Reading a lot in American forums can build up some anxiety in a newby brewer. Maybe I should stop consulting them altogether... Bless 'em... Nice bunch but some spend too much on their toys. (OK maybe I'm just jealous.) Everyone makes a big thing of temperature control these days. If brewing...

Re: Proper job Clone

Loving this thread - I recon Munich's a good replacement for Cornish Gold, when I compare these ... https://www.simpsonsmalt.co.uk/our-malts/cornish-gold/ https://www.simpsonsmalt.co.uk/our-malts/munich-malt/ Notes made on a brewery tour suggests they use Chinook, Fuggles, Willamette & Cascade for h...

Re: Pump Clips and Labels for Kegerator Taps

I love doing my own, generally I do a screen print of the preview, print it on an inkjet printer and laminate. Here's a link to the label design software: https://www.beerlabelizer.com/ My labels tend to be on a noughtical/ naughty-cal theme similar to those politically incorrect 1970's post cards b...

Re: Hog's Back T.E.A. Clone - Beginner's Questions

Looking back through my records I seem to remember Andy (one of the moderators on here) and myself doing a load of TEA batches to see who could come up with something close to TEA. We are both lucky enough to live close enough to the brewery to get the actual yeast. I rated the following recipe as 8...

Re: Phenolic taste at the end of a keg.

Thanks guys for all your help. This is solved. I was wrongly reliant on StarSan... Do you you mean you were using it wrongly or wrong to use it at all? ... I was about to suggest actually considering a 'one off' sterilisation using thin bleach and plenty of rinsing to get rid of any infection. I us...

Re: Choosing hops

By the way mjr, as a fellow Yorkshireman (though perhaps not as muted!), BIABer and no chiller, one really useful tip I was given on here to retain hop flavour/aroma, was to no chill then re-boil a gallon of wort and add the late addition hops (that don't work as late additions with no chill) and b...

Re: Worthington White Shield...

When I was a moderator in another forum I contacted Graham to see if he had any objection to his recipes being published on the forum. Providing it was not for gain or fame he had no objection. If the Worcesterhopshop are selling the recipes as kits I would say that is gain. Just a same he is no lo...

Just in case this helps with yield verses effort ... a friend of mine stated freezing and thawing the apples before pressing yielded much more juice from them!

Re: Hothead yeast

I'll be brewing this weekend. After reading all the comments above I'm planning to ferment at around 29. I'm really looking forward to using this yeast. I'm also planning saving some slurry and making a no boil / raw brown ale the next brew. How did this turn out? Am thinking about using Kveik to g...

Re: Fullers London Pride AG clone

I have been trying to mail down a London Pride clone for a couple of years now and think I have finally nailed. Thanks for the update! Done this beer (well the GW recipe) a few times myself & find your yeast research is interesting. Personally, I would find making comparisons with the original quit...

Progress as promised (Calibration day at the Rat and Dolphin).

Following up from my introduction to the forum earlier this week - I eagerly bought the Grainfather and have just calibrated it (the volumes stencilled into it's side). While it is currently boiling away some water (after a clean) (to calculate boiling losses) I checked the counterflow for leaks, an...
