Re: Wort Aerating device

Yes I do, recirc with the pump for about 15 minutes or until I get bored - through a large brass watering can rose. Bit primative, but it certainly froths up the wort.

Yes I certainly would, but when it comes to adding it via gypsum or calcium chloride, that's when things get a bit complicated for me.

Re: Phosphoric acid - supply

I thought I'd post the (very simplistic) picture which I use to try and understand the basic interactions between pH and alkalinity in the mash - give everyone a laugh on a Sunday :) I appreciate that there are going to be numerous other processes involved, but for someone like me who just scraped t...

Re: Phosphoric acid - supply

... do you know if WallyBrew is still doing water analysis for forum members? It would be good to get accurate numbers, rather than my company water report which is just readings from the previous year that have been averaged.

Re: Phosphoric acid - supply

Very cool, a bit advanced for me at this stage :) Could you have modified your water manually to obtain your reference samples rather than using natural variations in it's composition - just wondering, as it might be difficult to replicate the procedure for anyone else who wanted to try it, if they ...

Re: Phosphoric acid - supply

Thanks a lot Eric, water treatment is complex and my knowledge of it is very superficial. I will try that procedure on my next brew. Measuring all ions from total dissolved solids sounds pretty cool - how is that done? A brewing friend of mine bought a TDS meter, but he never worked out how to turn ...

Re: Phosphoric acid - supply

Would it help if I posted a copy of my water analysis from the water company? All information will be a help. Can you give the recipe as well, I don't use a spread sheet to estimate pH, but determine what water would suit that profile for my own consumption. What equipment do you have and a rough o...

Re: Phosphoric acid - supply

I am not 'up' on water chemistry. Eric sorted me out. The buttery taste, wasn't the AMS, it was the brewing salts (DWB) addition. I was using too much. That too is now bang on. I adjust my liquor (for hoppy IPA) to 80ppm alk, as per Murphy's guides. 80ppm? Quoting Murphy and Son on Alkalinity. It s...

Great just got some. If it’s going to be impossible to get hold of I’m stocking up.
I've just ordered a bottle, their site says they use DPD as courier to mainland UK.

It's definitely a bit scarce at the moment. Daily Star front page tomorrow .... 'The Great Phosphoric Acid Shortage' :D

Thanks, pity it's not FG.

I've just been pointed to this brewing supplier in Northern Ireland, never used them before but it looks like they ship to all the UK.

Re: Phosphoric acid - supply

Thanks for the replies folks, yes I'm wondering if it's to do with postage regulations. Will check out the ebay and email APC, I've bought chemicals from them before. I've used AMS/CRS in the past but someone (on this forum I think), suggested switching to phosphoric as the AMS raised the level of s...

Phosphoric acid - supply

Hi, Anyone know where to get food grade phosphoric acid? The last bottle I had was Brupaks, but I can't find anyone who keeps it in stock now.

Murphys will sell me a large quantity but of course it's expensive and I don't need much. Thanks for any info.

Re: Help with fridge - kegerator conversion

That's cool if you have done that and they are working ok. Probably me getting too close to the problem and not stepping back.

Certainly a simpler option than messing with the electronics of the fridge. Thanks a lot :-)
