Re: Harvesting yeast directly from Fermentasaurus
Thanks Kev, glad to hear I was along the right lines.
To be honest I never make starters, generally I just dump a sachet of yeast in the wort.
I’m also lazy and don’t often take the SG of my beers

Harvesting yeast directly from Fermentasaurus
Hi all, I got a Fermentasaurus last Christmas and used it for the first time the other week. It's great fun being able to see the fermentation in progress as opposed to the traditional white plastic buckets that I've used before. Anyway, as I'm getting round to sorting out a kegerator and as I'll ha...

Re: Plastic Beer Bottles
Thanks. As you say, it’s not a solution for a whole batch - I’m looking for a way to bottle for mates and when I can be bothered to use my chiller - I’ve got 4 cornies so will be filling from them anyway.
I looked for the plastic bottles on the Tesco website but discontinued.
Anywhere else sell them?

Plastic Beer Bottles
I've been considering getting one of these Pegas style taps for bottling my beer. I see that you can use plastic bottles in them and by adapting a washer you can do glass too. Does anyone here use plastic bottles? I've seen some Coopers ones taht look nice. Also I've not been able to find an active ...

Anyone sell them online?Kyle_T wrote:You can buy 1 gallon plastic pressure barrels, the alternative is to use mini kegs but carbonate the beer in a corner first and then decant into the mini kegs just before taking them out.

Re: Best solution
Can you force carbonate or referment in them? You can't force carbonate in them. You can prime with sugar for secondary conditioning to give a bit of fizz but it will never be "fizzy", although an English ale shouldn't be. I prime mine with sugar and then gently vent the CO2 off as it expands the b...

Re: Best solution
The 5L minikegs are what most use, but there are also 2L Growlers. I have no experience of those but there a re a number of people who use them. I think the Malt Miller sells them. Not sure about availability in Belgium. I'm starting to lean towards the idea of 5l minikegs. The growlers would be ni...

Re: Best solution
Have you considered polypins? Can you force carbonate or referment in them? I'd like to find a solution that will allow me to serve fizzy(ish) beer - over here in Belgium I get fed up of people saying that British beer is flat and served warm and want to show them what we brew is on a par with Belg...

Best solution
All, I'm getting back into brewing more seriously after leaving it to one side for a while. One of the things that I disliked before was bottling - seemed to take ages to put the beer into bottles only to open them and empty them down my throat. SO I've decided to change the way I do things and want...

Re: What & Where - New SS Allgrain Set-up
Not really necessary in the HLT unless you are going big. Standard 25l brew can have the HLT with one element get you to sparge temp before the mash has finished. I would spend the money on getting one of the temp controllers Brewbuilder sells (STC style thermostat but better) and a thermowell. Wil...

Re: What & Where - New SS Allgrain Set-up
Thanks all for your input. I do want to stay electric so no gas installation to mess with. I think it would be easier to go with a ready built BK and HLT - now thinking 70 litres I'm also thinking I'll stick with what I know and build a large (50 litre) coolbox mash tun - can get a good deal on a Co...
