Re: Floating dip tube for corny

I have exactly that setup, and so far so good. It leaves a little beer in the keg, that being the only downside.

I got lazy last keg, and served out of the fermenter keg direct using these. It worked fine with nice clear beer till the very bottom.

Re: Sestos PID slow to respond

Did you tune the parameters for the application? Or use the auto tune feature?

That's about all I can think of to improve things....

Re: Off grid fermentation temperature control?

I'm sure that paraffin or gas/LPG heaters could be used, but it might get more involved if the implementation needs to be safe (especially in a box) - wrt things like fire risk, venting spent gasses and accidental flame-outage - and an air supply would be needed for the thing to work in a small (po...

What about a parrafin anti frost heater in a kingspan box with a 25l fement bucket
That might just work, obviously it would take some tweaking as to how much ventilation, and how much heat to use.

I get the feeling it would get way too hot, but is cheap.

Re: Off grid fermentation temperature control?

Yes insulation is certainly the key for that kind of thing; it sounds like (at just a few five minute stints per day) you're using only about 50watt-hours (or less than 5ah at 12volts) which is remarkably little. If sufficiently well insulated for that to be so, perhaps a much lower power heater mi...

Re: Off grid fermentation temperature control?

Have you direct experience of that being sufficient, Richard? Several years ago a PV panel of that small size would have been of little use for a winter application like this, but I've no experience of more recent ones; it is genuinely great if they're improving that fast. I use a 60W solar panel t...

Re: Off grid fermentation temperature control?

I would go for really good insulation and a heater pad for a car seat teamed up with a 160W solar panel. You can add a 100Ah leisure battery and charge controller to that, so as to have temperature control at night. In the depths of winter you might need to swap batteries to keep up. Here are links ...

Hi Richard, Many thanks for this, obviously cost is a factor and in my haste I bought this - Thats ok sorry I got to you a bit late. Power : 60W Flow rate : 2800L/H H-Max (Lift height): About 3.0m Size : Approx 170*100*110 mm Adapter cable length : Approx 2.5m Color : Black & Green Material : ABS (...

Re: Help, I'm looking to build a key washer/sanitiser what size pump do I need?

Hi Ex pump engineer here. You will need a pump capable of not only flow rate, but head as well. If you are using a CIP ball then you don't need that much flow, but plenty of pressure (head). So you need the sort of pump that can throw water 3 to 10M in the air, looking at the available options you n...

Re: Propagating Hops from Rhizome Crown.

Maybe this will be of some use? https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/edible/vegetables/hops/propagating-hops-plants.htm Its relatively easy from what I remember, my father used to just cut the rhizomes into 6" sections and plant the resulting bits. They grow into new hop plants reasonably quickly, but t...

Re: Blackcurrant beer

So far so good, the beer hasn't fermented out yet. Tasting the sample from a gravity reading, its definitely promising, there's a balance of sweetness and tart blaccurent. Enough hop to provide a bitter finish. On the whole I am pleased with it so far. Another couple of days and I'll transfer it to ...

Re: Cheap Oypla Boiler on Amazon and thermal cut-off bypass

Just as a quick update, I've wired in a 12vdc power supply and a 12v-5v stepdown converter. This allowed me to wire in a raspberry pi zero w, 12v "food grade" pump with a DC motor driver, solid state relay for the heating element and DS18B20 temperature sensor. The pi is running craftbeerpi so I ca...

Hi does anyone remember how bad the beer kits were in the 80s and do you think home brewing has ever recovered from the bad name it name it had then  Its about when my father started brewing, so yes I remember it well. Though not a surprise he went all grain, because some of the kits where ju...

Did you lager for 4 weeks or did you use the fast lager method?
I did a dyacytil rest and left it to slow larger. It turned out a bit boring for my taste, because I didn't use any specialty malts.

The next batch is on the way with more flavour :)

Can you recommend a yeast?
I used Saflager W37/70 rehydrated dried yeast and it was noticeable how clean the taste profile was compared to an ale yeast.

Hope that helps
