No prob. I also think that it works best hot. If you let it go cold it precipitates the scale out quicker. If you start it cold, some may not even be dissolved at all. Glad you found something better though.

Re: VWP instead of oxyclean
Did you leave the oxyclean in the tank for any more than 20 minutes? As far as I understand it, on release of the active oxygen Sodium Percarbonate (the active ingredient in oxyclean) is converted to Sodium Carbonate. If you leave Sodium Percarbonate for any more than about 20 minutes, and if you ha...

Re: Stainless Hot Water Cylinder conversion - ideas
This looks great! The big opening on the lid of your boiler looks like a 2.25" bsp immersion socket. I use a 2" opening on the lid of a 100L boiler, and it's a good enough size to vent the steam from that size of boil. I use it with 2" tube going to a condenser from a commercial steam oven. Very har...

Cheap Trial Jar
Hi all, I haven't been on JBK in a while, but I thought I would post a link to a cheap 'trial jar' I bought recently, in case anyone else finds it useful. I did a quick search and I don't think it's been mentioned before (hopefully not because it is a daft idea). They are available in Ikea, meant to...

What sort of caps / capper are you using? Sometimes if the cap isn't on right it can let pressure out.

Re: connecting plate chiller
Before you order any fittings - The measurement across the thread doesn't tell you the thread size. There's a table here to help: http://www.pipefittingsdirect.co.uk/contents/en-uk/BSP%20Identification.pdf If you measured 1" across the thread, it is probably a 3/4" fitting, and the one that's 3/4" a...

Re: Sour dough yeast
Sourdough starter contains lactobacillus as well as wild yeast. The lactobacillus produces lactic acid which would give a bit of sourness. Curious to know how this turns out as I'm a sourdough baker too. Could pass for a sourdough lambic!

Re: Element sizes for 4bbl brew
I would guess he means that the hot water out of the heat exchanger (when chilling after the boil) can fill the HLT for the next brew? About the element sizes, I assumed that the 3kW was to hold at a certain temperature, and the 12kW (and the rest) were to heat up from cold, but was wondering what t...

How many times can you re-use the chips? Do they 'run out' of flavor?

Re: Water Filters?
I was raised drinking beers that were brewed in areas with high mineral content waters. The main brewer in this town once bought out a smaller concern, it was said, for its well and water, not because of what that water didn't contain, but for what it did. Brewers would malt their barley (or buy) t...
