Is there any reason why one cannot use hops to brew straight from the bine?

Home grown Hops

Can they be compared to professionally supplied hops How does one determine the AA. etc.etc. Really looking for other growers comments and a general d...

Vacuum Bag Storage

I have half a barrel of my dry garden hops to store. The best way to store I understand is to remove all air and keep at a low temperature.
Have I read that there are vacuum bags available where the air can be removed with a standard vacuum cleaner.
Or any other DIY method that will be satisfactory.

Re: An idiot's guide to growing hops?

Give the Hop roots a good home to live in and it will pay you back.
Provide a framework for it to climb
August planting will give it time to establish for next year.
Grow only three shoots (i.e. cut out the others)
You should get a crop next year.
Problem is how are you going to find what the AA is?

Re: Poor mash efficiency

I had the same problem yesterday. Normally I get 1060-1070 from boiler but for some reason I only finished with 1045 so I added approx 1Ib sugar to bring it to 1050. I was called away from my brew and mashed for 3 hours, this is the only difference. Could this have caused my problem? Glad to say tod...

Re: Hop Growing 2009

Hi Martialant
not teaching my ant to suck eggs, but why not tie your chillies on a cotton line and hang them up somewhere dry.
They will turn red and gradully dry out you can use them any time .
If they dry out totaly you can rub them fine and still use them
