Re: Scorched Element - Have you ever gotten away with it?

I could hook it up to a PID and dial it down a bit perhaps?

Re: Scorched Element - Have you ever gotten away with it?

Sometimes learning to brew great beer means learning a lesson in what your brew kit can and can't do. I've had the same thing and had to dump am ashtray beer. In my case I had too much flour getting through to the boil, and since that I've been more careful in lautering. I think in your case a 6 ho...

Did you use any sugar ? If so did you dissolve before adding it to the boil ? Were the hops whole or pellets and were they contained in either a hop sock or spider ?
Hi IPA. Yep - used sugar and treacle. Di solved and stirred in after 'flameout'.

Hops were pellet and were loose as always.

Re: Scorched Element - Have you ever gotten away with it?

Sad sad day. Just had a sniff of the beast as the ferment kicked in. Big burnt/ashtray smell coming from it. 10 hrs wasted not to mention the ££. Testing hobby sometimes. Especially when you’ve two young kids. Big brew days are few and far between. Going to let this ferment out to see what FG comes ...

Scorched Element - Have you ever gotten away with it?

So... I brewed a mammoth Russian Imperial Stout yesterday. OG came in at 1.110 . I had to boil for around 6 hrs in order to reach that gravity. Safe to say that lessons have been learnt with regards to overshooting efficiency on big ass beers!! Anyway... After I filled the fermenter, I notice...

Re: DIY Portable Super Powerful Wok Station

Ah - Ok Kev. Thanks for that. I knew it was sensible to post here!

I originally went with aluminium as it was easier to punch holes in. Cheaper too, of course.

Thanks again.

DIY Portable Super Powerful Wok Station

Hey folks, Wasn't sure where to post this topic. I remember we used to have a 'BBQ/Smoking' room. Would have been more suitable in there. Ah well... So... I want to build a portable wok station that I can use in the garden / take camping etc. I want something really powerful to recreate Chinese rest...

Re: Hop pellets clogging

I use pellets exclusively and use no filter in my boiler. I just let the wort settle after the chill for around 5 mins then run off into the fermenter. the tap is just above the trub so maybe 90% of the hops get left behind. The other 10% (or around 20g of hops) makes its way into the fermenter but ...

Re: Elvis Juice!

Hey Cobnut. Have amended the boil temp. :-)
I mashed at 66c for 1 hr. The 200g of sugar helped bring the FG down too.
I used S05. Cheers!

Re: Elvis Juice!

Hi guys, Here's my latest Elvis Juice inspired beer. It's completely incredible. The grapefruit and orange taste completely natural and not synthetic like Elvis Juice. The only tweak I'll make next time is up the bitterness to 35 IBU Drinking a glass right now. Only three weeks old and completely re...
