Re: Too hot for Pils..

I've reconfigured the shed as it was too hot to be standing over a boiling cauldron of wort today. Removed one workbench and replaced it with a different shaped table, bit of fiddling and I have a big polystyrene box attached to the old fridge that my 60L spiedel fermenters will fit in nicely. LAger...

Re: Too hot for Pils..

I did the last batch between 11 and 15 ambient over 3 weeks, was very good, that's the way I'd like to do it. Looking around the garden for somewhere sensible to put the fridge and extension box but needs to be minimally intrusive!

Too hot for Pils..

I've been busy with my Dad's estate, clearing house out only for sale to fall through. So much cleaning gardening etc that I've not brewed since last year. I was lining up some lager batches but the weather is now too warm. I do have an old fridge to convert to a temperature controlled chamber, but ...

I generally mash for 60 minutes so you should be fine.

Re: Crisps No. 19 Maris Otter

I've never had any trouble with this, seems to mash much as predicted. I use a DIY HERMS system that keeps it about 65C, have noticed poor extraction as it gets older, which coincided with doing BIAB so could be grain or technique to blame, but when fresh and in the mash tun it seems fine.

Sounds like fabulous news, they will presumably stop the sickly sweet abominations that are Wainwright ales as well as bringing back Jennings!!!

Re: Really Bad Beer

I was given a beer52 voucher thing for christmas a year or two back, the voucher gets you month 1 and after that it's a membership that you pay 27 quid to and get sent 8 beers, some sample size snacks and a magazine. I decided to persist as some variety might expose me to interesting new ideas. Sadl...

Bluebird

I'm just having a few pints of my Coniston bluebird clone. Was watching Man City in champions league, it's the first time my 15 year old Son has really seen them lose properly - I having had a season ticket since 2003 remember a lot worse. Anyway the beer eased the result. Previous Bluebird was all ...

It sounds heavenly compared to being an A&E Consultant in the NHS though!

Re: Crossmyloof retirement

Just spent £150 on lots of 100g yeast packs and shedload of hops. I aspire to partial retirement from the NHS next year and that's the sort of business I'd like to run as a hobby/sideline to help me stay occupied when I fully retire. Sadly geography and time would preclude me asking for their financ...

Out by the Shed again

Had a couple of days off work, Thursday was spent lifting roof tiles at the side of the house so I could insulate some pipes that run underneath and keep freezing up in winter, come to think of it I actually wasn't off - just fitted it around 4 hours of work meetings on teams! So yesterday was more ...
