Re: Burton Union System

It is now eighteen months since my Burton Union system went into production during which time it has produced a monthly batch of my take on Fuggles Imperial IPA plus a few other types of brew. Although I was fairly happy with my version of this ale, I could not get it just right - there was somethin...

Re: Leaf hop supplies

I've just been using some EK Goldings still vacuum packed that had a best before date in 2006 and they were just fine. Were in a carrier bag the wife put away for me, together with about another one and half kilo of other varieties including my favorite Fuggles. Amazing what you find having a clearo...

Re: Burton Union System

Have done my second batch of my take on Whitbred's Fuggles Imperial IPA using my union system. The results are very good and a very clear beer going into conditioning. Best of all was the crop of yeast I harvested from the fob trough. That too was very clean. Made that into a couple of starter jars....

Re: New Fermzilla gen. 3 and ‘hop bong’

Saw the video and noted the heavy emphasis on purging the "bong" with gas to prevent oxygen into the fermenter. Just a thought, but CO2 is a lot heavier than O2 and forms a dense blanket over the wort, so why not just drop the hops in.

Re: Burton Union System

My Fuggles is currently conditioning after dry hopping for four days. I am very happy with the result so far. Again it brewed out much quicker that I thought it would and was also clearer at the end of fermentation than other methods I have used. As far as taste goes, I have got quite close to my me...

Re: Burton Union System

So the first brew is completed. I was surprised tp see how quickly this brewed out. It was a wheat beer sg 1.048 fg 1.006 using WB-06 yeast, and was done in four days. Not really the best type of beer to try on this system as I always find that there is a lot of lees on wheat beers from the grain. H...

Re: Burton Union System

Now the Set has been running for a couple of days there are a couple of pictures of it in aaction.

The one thing that surprised me was the clarity of the wort in the feeder trough after the fob had collapsed.

Re: Burton Union System

The first brew has been pitched, and my Burton Union System is up and running as at 10p.m. tonight. It is a wheat beer being brewed according to the Ukrainian receipe. Pictures will follow tomorrow.

Re: Burton Union System

At this stage I will explain my choices in the build. Not only was the shape of the american barrel more suited to this system, but also the opening is wide enough for me to get my fingers into the barrel to hold the locknuts on the inside for the gland nut and bulkhead fittings to be tightened full...

Re: Burton Union System

As you have seen from previous pictures, the Marston cask has a cooling unit inside it for temperature control keeping the contents at or around 19 deg C. I forsaw that my problem would be keeping it up to temperature. After a lot of thought I decided to go with internal heating. This I achieved usi...

Re: Burton Union System

At this point I should confess that I have an abundance of empty food grade HPDE barrels available to me through the company I own. We wholesale ink for thermal inkjet printers, and also remanufacture inkjet cartridges which we sell on eBay. We are the only vendor in the catagory with a 100% satisfa...
