Re: Beer yeast
I'd say it really depends on the OG. Brewer's yeast might not be up to fermenting higher gravity meads. Lager yeast are good for lower gravity meads. Horses for courses, as they say.

Re: Ultratap Flow Control Twist
It's a relatively cheap beer tap, at the end of the day. An interesting design. Hopefully, it adds something, as claimed. I'll probably get one if it turns out to reflect the marketing. I don't think it's going to be a replacement for my beer engine, though. Unless several taps are being purchased, ...

Re: Something Dark for Christmas.
Well executed, Eric. Great fermentation with a proper brewer's yeast, I"d say. I'm not a fan of lactose in beer, personally.

Re: 10L cheap pressure keg recommendation
Nice tidy job, but I'm wondering why you didn't just go for a reconditioned 12L cornelius keg, which make great pressure rated FVs for small batches. Comparable price, if you shop around. Add a floating dip tube and it's difficult to beat. I'd no idea these existed    Exactly what I ...

Re: Dried fruit aroma and flavour
Do note that barley seeds - cereal seeds generally - all seeds, in fact - are actually fruits, botanically speaking. Nor would I read too much into Germany's so-called purity laws. Most traditionally brewed beer in Europe has been made with water, malted barley, hops and yeast for centuries. I think...

Dark crystal malt helps quite a bit.

Re: Hop rocket for pellets
You’ll need to use a lot of leaf with it to help filter the pellets. Otherwise they just clog any screen fine enough to filter pellets.
This mainly. I've been using a genuine HopRocket for about 2.5 years, according to my brewing not...
