Re: Help! Leaking barrel!
I've had no end of problems with these types of taps leaking. A solution that I've found that works is wrapping P.T.F.E. tape around the threads on the tap.

Re: Lifting Full Fermentation Vessel
That is what I have been thinking of, it really didn't look very good at all suspended in mid air like that.

Lifting Full Fermentation Vessel
Because of back problems I've installed an electric winch in my garage to lift my F.V. in and out of a converted chest freezer which I use as a brew fridge. I used it for the first time at the weekend, and it worked a treat. The only thing that is worrying me is how strong the connection between the...

Re: S30 Cylinder Problems
I have solved the problem by cutting a roughly 1mm length of syphon tubing with a scalpel which I then pushed in the top of the valve body. I then screwed on the cylinder which pushed the piece of syphon tube to the bottom of the valve. The cylinder now seals itself against this piece of syphon tube...

Re: S30 Cylinder Problems
I have just looked, and the tape seal on my last two cylinders that I have had the problem with are white. I wonder if the diameter of the nozzle has been reduced on these ones?

S30 Cylinder Problems
Has anyone else been experiencing problems with S30 gas cylinders? The last two I bought have had problems with sealing on the valve. Despite replacing all the rubbers on three different valves, gas was pouring out between the rubber o ring on the valves and the threads on the cylinder every time th...

Re: Advice on rescuing a leaking barrel
I have had the same problem. I think it is caused by the tapered threads tightening up before the rubber seal can do it's job. Solved by wrapping PTFE tape around tap threads and screwing tap back in.

Re: What one thing transformed your brewing?
Liquid yeasts and fermenting in a temperature controlled converted chest freezer. Looking at the comments on this thread I'll be looking at water treatment a bit closer for the next leap forward, just using brewing salts and CRS at the moment.

Re: Can i Lager in the bottle?
I made my first all grain pilsner a few months back and bottle conditioned mine with no problems. I fermented in the brew fridge at 12 degrees and ramped up the temperature to 20 degrees when the gravity hit 1.020. When the fermentation had finished bottled the beer with a level teaspoon of brewing ...

Re: The Home Brew Shop, Aldert shot "Own Label Kits
One of the last kits I made before going all grain was the Di & Danny's Golden Ale. The kit came with some nice quality hops which worked well with the kit. Ended up a with a very nice pint.

Stirring Whilst Using Wort Chiller
I have now done half a dozen or so successfull all grain brews after moving from kits but have a question about chilling the wort. I am using a copper coil wort chiller and I stir the wort whilst chilling to help even out the temperature drop, but in doing so the nice clear wort is going cloudy agai...

Re: Strange Nottingham Yeast Behavior
The yeast was re-hydrated as per instructions on packet. when pitched it looked perfect and smelt fine. The yeast was purchased last week and the vacuum pack was o.k. The wort temperature was around 25 degrees when the yeast was piched and the fermentation temperature is around the 21 degree mark, b...

Strange Nottingham Yeast Behavior
I have just done my second all grain brew and used Danstar Nottingham yeast in both. The first brew (T.T.L. recipe from Graham Wheelers book) fermented as I would have expected with a nice foamy head on the beer. The second brew (Old Thumper recipe from same book) the fermentation looks completely d...
