A Few Questions. Apologies for Covering Old Ground.
Does the Buffalo Boiler do a rolling boil without having to bypass the thermostat? Pretty sure I have read elsewhere that it has a 110 setting that most people use. Do any of the commercially available hop filters work with this boiler? If not, what do you use? Planning on Ordering a Custom Bag from...

Re: what size boiler??
Buffalo 40l seems to be popular. Nisbetts sell them at a (seemingly) reasonable price, but also occasionally have them on eBay, or so I have heard.

Re: Plastic v glass
I love Glass Bottles. I don't Keg at all as my intake is not sufficient to justify it. Plus I like a Commercial brew occasionally.
I have however use PET bottles and noticed no issues over a year along the line.
Just my 2c

Re: Stronger Beer !!!!
Technically you can, but it will taste and "feel" wrong.
If you want to make a tasty beer then go with Coopers, if you want to make Strong stuff, then maybe a turbo cider is more up your street.

Re: Beginner - 1st home brew kit
"Asda does Grolsch and they frequently come up in their 3 for £5 deal." My local 'Carrefour' supermarche is doing 3 x 650ml Fischer for €2.70 at the moment. Not bad for less that an Euro a throw. Problem is, the bottle cannot be poured into a 500ml 'pint' glass in one go... That is a lovely prob...

Re: Beginner - 1st home brew kit
Asda does Grolsch and they frequently come up in their 3 for £5 deal. I keep thinking I should buy some but 2 things stop me. The bottles are only 450ml and I really don't like Grolsch, although I would drink it if there was nowt else. I would definitely go this route rather than paying for empties...

Re: Brupaks almondbury old
The kit should be fine provided it isn't dented too badly. Check it when you open it for any "off" smells.
The yeast on the other hand is going to need replacing. I am sure someone will come along shortly with advice for which one to use and further instructions.

Re: first brews :)
Sorry I haven't said hello yet MrO. Work has been brutal. I don't do the Campden tablet thingy and use 2 litre bottled water from whatever cheapo supermarket I can find. It has always worked well for me (upwards of 40 brews using it) and it always gives you an empty to decant the finished product in...

Re: Coopers Real Ale kit
Prima at around 80-100g for the whole batch, depending on your tastes.
It will be a pretty drinkable drop in my opinion, just a little thin but still good.

Re: Brewers Spring
Details please. (as in where).
They are not a name I am familiar with and while I love the Coopers I make, I will always be willing to try most anything else.
EDIT: I found them on with a google and I see they are mainly Lager(ish) kits, which may be why they passed my radar.

Re: Coopers Australian Pale Ale - "out of the box", or tweak
I tried a bottle last night. Fantastic. I imagine the base Australian Pale Ale may be a little bland, but with cascade hops done three ways it was excellent. Mrs_drummer said it had an elderflower hint to it, like a nice reffreshing summer ale It's only been in the bottle a week but already lightly...

Re: Sterilising bottle tops?
I am a Videne man too, for my last 3 brews and I just spray my bottles then empty the used solution over the caps and if there isn't quite enough I pour a little out of the sprayer and cover them. Then, being the dominant man that I am, I command the memashib to cap them for me. (Actually I plead w...

Re: "quality control" (bottled beer)
Can't say I have noticed this (other than with the dregs which I frequently forget to mark). I use a bottling bucket and batch prime, before syphoning my beer onto it. My bucket has a tap so I am not syphoning, just attaching a bottling stick to it, so my only suggestion is that you could be introdu...

Re: Adding Spray Malt
The coopers website recommends throwing it into an empty FV then adding (I Think) boiling wayer and picking it up and swishing it around. I assume this means pre-kit.
I can't verify this as I am at work and for some reason the Coopers website is blocked.
