Re: Bittering/Aroma hop ratio

I'm sure Graham Wheeler talked about the ratio of bittering to late hops is one of his books, although the amounts of late hops in his recipes would be considered modest by the standards of today (leaving aside ridiculous craft beers)

Re: It Only Took 10 Years & 5 Minutes

I ' made' (assembled?) a dip tube thing for my Burco as there was a lot of dead space if you just screw a hop stopper thing in the back of the tap. I found that helpful and was very easy to make. Sparge arm sounds tricky.

Re: It Only Took 10 Years & 5 Minutes

I fitted a tap like that to my Burco boiler and it was much better for brewing than the tap it came with

Re: sugar

I don't really use sugar much in beers, but I'm betting that for a lot of ales you would be better off buying a kilo of some nice brown sugar than so called brewing sugar (and it would probably be cheaper).

Re: Festival New Zealand Pilsner.

Made a Old Father Hooks Bitter and bottled at weekend. Agree pouch was a pain! Give me tins any day. Box also strangely hard to open, but less of a faff than trying rinse out a pouch!

Re: Review - Muntons Gold Continental Pilsner

Blimey, that is so much darker! I made an out of date Old English Bitter from that range and it was dark, but nothing to compare it against so don't know how it compares with the same kit made earlier. It is darker than your beer, otherwise I might be inclined to think you were accidentally given th...

Re: Festival Landlords Finest Bitter

Thanks for the update. They seem to give a lot of dry hops with some of these kits. Sometimes less is more, but I get that this is a rather unfashionable view these days! I did a Woodfordes Bure Gold a while ago and the relatively small pack of hops made a nice impression (although this faded quite ...

IMO it's a bit less bland, certainly a better price.
Clears quicker & still a good floccer.
Thanks. Will have to give it a try.
