Re: Oh My God
I can echo the above sentiments. Just got back into home brewing after a long layoff, but have never done an AG before. First brew was an extract - London Pride style - to get back into the swing of things. Luckily it turned out a good pint & I was pleased. Last month I did the same beer , but this ...

Re: Camping mat with foil backing.
So the foil backing is just decorative to make your kit look shiny-shiny? 8) I thought for insulation purposes eg on a mash tun, the foil went on the inside. ...and HERE'S one for the girls/shandy drinkers  You forgot lager drinkers  Looks like I'll have to get the pink mat coz I've go...

Re: Dead space !
Don't see why they shouldn't work, but you'd probably need at least 3 or 4 of those 700g pots to fill the required volume, which starts to work out quite expensive. Then there's the messy business of trying to separate them out from the spent hops and trub sludge afterwards, and washing them ready ...

Re: Dead space !
Just to put in my ha'porth worth:- When I made my coolbox mashtun, I realised that using the syphon effect, the tap didn't have to be at the lowest possible level, so there was no need for convoluted bendy pipes to fit the manifold to the tap. I made a neat manifold first & cut the tap hole to line ...

Re: Christmas Ale advice
Thanks for your reply Whorst, all comments are gratefully received. :D You're right to suggest upping the mash temp. I thought (incorrectlly) that a thin mash would produce more dextrins & a thick mash more maltose, but its the other way round. I think a mash temp of 67C (152-153F) is about right. H...

Re: Christmas Ale advice
I must admit that I was hoping for a few replies to my query
Wanted to brew it this weekend, looks like I'll have to go it alone with what I've got.
Anyone out there please?

Re: Wheeler's Beer Engine
I had no idea but I Google'd it and got this:-
GYLE (NUMBER)
A batch number on the cask label identifying when it was brewed.

Re: Wheeler's Beer Engine
Unfortunately I don't think that's the problem. I've just tried altering the sizes of all the window items on that menu which have size options, but whilst the relative height and width of the BE outside border may change, the internal field placement stays the same. Unfortunately it means that the...

Re: AG# GOD KNOWS. Olivers Best Bitter. I hope!!!!
Good point but I think that beer "style" i.e the recipes that you find on this forum and those found in Wheeler's book for example are good reference points for designing your very own custom ales. Why do you like a particular beer and what's it made from. I personally do not make copies - I start ...

Re: AG# GOD KNOWS. Olivers Best Bitter. I hope!!!!
Should be at least unusual but i feel that brewing is all about experimenting with different ingredients. will let you all know how it turns out, if in fact it turns out to be drinkable at all. Hi carpet18, That brew is going to be malty! Did you brew it & how did it turn out? I'm with you on home ...

Re: Williamette Replacement
Btw I'm a newbie poster, how do I get 'link' to point to the URL without showing the full address? have a look in the Tap room sticky post 'How to', it tells you how to do it in there Thanks Garth, just what I was looking for. Another thing (sorry!) what files am I allowed to upload? I was trying t...
