Re: Forgot Torrified Wheat

Hi Jason,

I'm mashing now without any wheat. Let's see how it goes. I'm sure it'll taste good :)

Forgot Torrified Wheat

So I forgot to get torrified wheat for a Black Sheep Best recipe I got from the CAMRA book. I'm just going to press on, but should I expect anything other loss of head retention?

Re: Boiler headache...

Yes, sounds like a potential nightmare! Thanks.

I think I'll probably do my boiling outside to be honest just in case there are any problems!

Looking forward to using my new boiler sometime in the next few weeks.

Re: Boiler headache...

"To sort the thermostat I moved the probe from the base, and relocated it to the side, bolting it to one of the lugs supporting the base plate with a modified PC blanking plate - the thermo works a treat now, and does a nice rolling boil at anything over 4." Would this not be sufficient to fool the ...

Re: How do you override new Burco thermostat

Thanks for this info, I've just bought one of these.

Does this mean therefore that the boiler simply stays on?

I guess this also means that you can't use it as a hot liquor tank anymore? [Not the end of the world]

Re: Home made mash tun

My Coleman cooler arrived, and it's a beauty. I'll get some pics up tonight or tomorrow. It has two features that are very promising. First of all it has 1 gallon increments on the inside that are marked by a small step reduction of diameter. The means there's a perfect shelf for a round false botto...

Re: cost of a pint

I try and buy a 25KG sack of MO plus the rest on one order and hope to make 6 x 23 litres so split the p&p across 6 brews WOW! Good savings to be made doing that. I've considered this, but am concerned about storage. How often do you brew? and where do you store the grain in the meantime? I'm buyin...

Re: BURCO BOILER HELP

Just ordered one of these myself.

Looks like a very promising piece of equipment - better than my big saucepan.

Interested in the modifications you've made Graham, can you elaborate?

Thanks,

Re: Guinness Clone Head Retention

Yeah thanks, I couldn't find Bullion hops. I've got some Northdown hops tucked away so will use them. Dammit though, I didn't think about Yeast. All I have is my Muntons Gold dried yeast. I'm 25 batches in and still making errors like that! Ingredients due in either today or tomorrow! If they get he...

Re: Guinness Clone Head Retention

I have to admit, it looked similar to my light ale recipe I was very surprised. Thanks for the info!

I've tuned the grains to

3500g Pale Malt
1000g Flaked Barley
500g Roasted Barley

Makes for very easy purchasing too as the shop I use tends to do 3000g and 500g bags.

I'll save you a bottle!

Guinness Clone Head Retention

Hi, I'm looking for some advice, as I'm about to purchase the ingredients for my first ever Guinness clone. Recipe I have so far for 23 litres is: 4000g Pale Malt 500g Flaked Barley 250g Roasted Barley 60g East Kent Goldings I'm not sure however that I'm going to get head retention to the level that...
