Re: Mashing query
Hello
I have always put the water for the mash in the mash tun at strike heat and never had a problem with gravity.
When you addedd the cold water to bring the temperature down this would have given you a thinner mash this could have allowed a better conversion in the mash .

Re: Rotokeg...confused re sterilising
I use VWP and chuck the cap in to sterilize for 15 min never had any problems witth the cap been doing that since they came out. Maybe just the brass s30 valves may get damaged if exposed to long to the sterilizer.

Re: Krausen question
You can skim it of if you wish make sure what you use is sterilized first . I tend not to and does not affect the quality of the finished beer, the only time I skim is if the yeast is trying to escape ie blow the lid of the FV

Re: Brupaks tea bag IPA - how to hop it to the maximum
Columbus hops are a lot more potent than amarillo, to do a comparison on the different methods you would relly have to use the same hops for both.

Re: Fast yeast!
Mangrove Jacks M07 is really good fermented out a porter I made recently from 1056 down to1012 in 48 hours , it also packs down to bottom of FV like concrete and drops bright in barrel after 5 to 7 days.

Easier to clean of any scale deposits, more sturdy will last a life time and , plastic will weaken eventualy and may fail, better tap etc.
