Re: Sat 5th May 2018 Wishbone Brewery & NCB Competition
Well today's brew will certainly be one of those 'I've got this far it might as well go in the bucket and we'll see what happens". Bought a new thermometer after finding out my old one was 10c out. Mashed as normal then noticed as I turned the boiler on to get to boiling it was already reading 99c w...

Re: Brew Con London - A Home Brewing Conference and Expo
Would loved to have gone but busy with various home diy projects and a 6 month old baby. It's on a list of definitely maybes for next year though so looking forward to everyone's feedback from this year.
I do have a beer in the competition though...

Re: Peco electrim boiler best bag for
My first 5 brews I kept encountering the burnt element issue. Almost gave up. Then read that if u keep regularly stirring the wort when heating it up to boil you'll be fine. Once at boiling the element is pushing away the wort/trub before it manages to settle on the element. Sent from my SM-G903F us...

Re: Hop Growing 2017
Another Yorkshire grower here. My first time growing them but I bought a few of these as rhizomes from a bloke locall6 who had already had a few years out of them. To the left of the doors are First Gold, on the right is Cascade which is going like the clappers and just peeking up next to that you'l...

Seymour's Saltaire Blonde Clone
It's the wife's birthday later in the month so we are having a bit of a do so I thought I would give Seymour's Saltaire Blonde recipe a go. Tempted to do a gentle dry hop of either Styrian Goldings or Cascade on this one. BIABacus Pre-Release 1.3T RECIPE REPORT BIAB Recipe Designer, Calculator and S...

Re: Peco electrim boiler best bag for
It took a few brews to get to know it. What I will say is keep stirring between end of mash and getting up to full boil. Any trub that settles on the element can lead to a burnt batch.

Re: Chocolate flavour
I've used cocoa powder in the mash...you get the chocolate flavour though the fats in the powder kill any head. Also no krausen during ferment!

Re: US-05 not starting - can I add some Nottingham?
Thanks folks. There is no airlock on this - just the lid on loose.
MTW - Hope to see you again at the Wishbone event in April. I wont be entering the comp but will be hoping to attend the event regardless.

Re: US-05 not starting - can I add some Nottingham?
Slurry was 2 weeks old and yes I did even the temp. No airlock on this FV (it is a snap and shut lid without a hole in the top) so have left it on top loose so gas can escape. I can usually see the yeast forming on top of the beer by this stage. I'll see how it looks tomorrow and maybe pitch some No...

US-05 not starting - can I add some Nottingham?
Pitched some US-05 slurry from a previous brew on Monday morning. Never reused yeast like this before and online consensus was I could chuck it in without a starter. Well, no signs of anything happening yet - if there is still no sign of activity tomorrow how do yout hink adding a dry pack of Nottin...
