Re: Using bread yeast for carbonating non alcoholic beverages

I am pretty sure I used bread yeast for some elderflower I made a few years ago. It was fine although I did end up with quite a lot of yeast in the bottles (which may have been me rather than the yeast).

Not sure how alcohol tolerant bread yeast is?

Oh no, just saw this and shuddered!

I hope you’re back up and running now. Any idea how you could best keep a spare, for backup?

Re: Scoby one-kenobi - kombucha brew day

Thanks, I’ve taken to mixing it with orange juice as I drink it - very nice. I will try bottling with juice too - a chance to be creative working out what’s good. I’ve upped my brew length to 3 litres now, so enough to experiment. The sulphur does seem to disappear after a couple of days in the frid...

Re: Scoby one-kenobi - kombucha brew day

Thanks Bryan, that's a good idea, as whilst it's a nice drink it can be a bit raw, especially when young (more than a bit of sulphur).

How do you use the hibiscus, is that dried flowers, syrup or an infusion of some sort?

Re: Fermentation fridge base reinforcement

I agree, it does look good.

Also you clearly thought through the need for air circulation. I built one using plywood then had to drill holes to allow the warm air through!

Next step, it is bottled!

At last a use for my clear, screw top, bottles.

I've tried it and it is quite sharp. I hope it's an acquired taste :?

Especially as I've topped up the 'fermenter' .....

Scoby one-kenobi - kombucha brew day

For a recent birthday, some friends bought me a kilner drinks jar: https://i.ibb.co/Y83nDP0/IMG-0753-Copy.jpg So I got thinking and decided to give kombucha a go. Following the instructions that came with my scoby, I put 8 teabags and 170g of sugar in 2 litres of boiling water: https://i.ibb.co/V3fc...

Re: heater wattage for fermentation fridge?

I've just checked and I have two 60W tubular heaters in mine, although I think that was to be able to get to 36 degrees for honey warming.

I have a vague recollection that one was enough to heat the fridge to fermentation temperatures!

Re: Beersmith3 Set Up

At the bottom of the "Tools" menu is "Options" click in there and the second option is then "Units" - so you can have metric or even some weird mix!

I'm 14 days into my trial, it does look quite good although I'm not sure I'd use all the features.

Paperwork rather than ingredients . Good job, as I still have a large bottle to get through (it doesn’t go out of date does It?)

3. In defaults editor there is no provision for wort losses. 3) Yeah the program is still work-in-progress and I can implement it, I just don't use it personally so never thought about it - I am not sure how to implement it at this point in time, anybody got any ideas/formulas? Thanks Jim, it does ...

Re: Hop plants. Heads up.

Any tips on hop growing welcome. Will two plants be enough? I planted a couple of hop plants a few years ago and they're romping away. So give them plenty of space and somewhere they can climb (one of mine covers the trellis it is on and is in the process of taking over an ornamental cherry!). They...
