Re: Hop pellets clogging
I have used loads of filters over the years, including the metal pan scrubs. ..........On another point, not having been on the forum for a while. I just noticed that the last reply was at 3.38 pm. It is now only 3.07 pm.......is the site on BST?

Re: Hop pellets clogging
Thanks fellas. I used whole hops early in the boil and pellets late. It took about an hour to drain, rather than the usual 10 minutes. I have tried a variety of strainers/bags in the past with whole hops. On this occasion the slow filtration, although a pain, has resulted in a very clear run off!

Hop pellets clogging
Hi guys......yes I know it's been a while since I posted. Today I have done an IPA style and for the first time with this set up (first time ever, actually) I used pellets rather than whole hops. The copper is draining slowly but will probably get there. Just wondered if anyone has experienced the s...

Re: Minimum unit pricing for alcohol
50p in Scotland (being challenged in the courts I believe). 45p in England (dunno about other outposts). Won't it just affect plonk + nasty lager/ales i.e. cheap booze ? In theory, but..................Ive just stocked up on a mixture of ciders and lagers which I enjoy occasionally, but many of my ...

Re: Minimum unit pricing for alcohol
This policy is making me really angry. Why can't I buy what I want from the best deal and drink it at my leisure? It just won't work. All it will do is raise more revenue. They may as well tax heroin! If a binge drinker wants it that badly they will steal to pay for it, steal it directly or just pay...

Re: Hops for banana bread?
Just done one by accident. I used EKG for a small amount of bittering then EKG and Cascade at 15 mins. The yeast was Youngs beer and wine yeast (it is my emergency stock yeast for general purpose use) Accidentally fermented about 24C and has turned out like Wells Banana Bread!

You will be making a pale ale which may convert your lager mates..............be careful, you will end up supplying their new found taste!

Re: Back on track..........sort of!
Thanks guys. I found some SO4, rehydrated it and then went for my emergency Youngs yeast. The SO4 just didnt look or smell right. It was after all a repackaged one from the malt miller and err, ah hm, dated 2010  The runnings from the boiler were as clear as some finished beer I have made. By...

Back on track..........sort of!
Well you may have noticed I haven't been on much for a while...............err O.K. never mind. Today was an impulsive brew an will be using the last of some old ingredients which I would normally shudder at the thought of people using. I'm frightened to admit just how out of date the stuff is, but ...

Re: What do you bitter with?
Ive all but given up on early hops... That's interesting. I understand that a long hops boil provides the natural gram-negative preservative effects, in addition to bitterness flavors. Do you drink through your batches pretty quickly? Have any of these batches sat around for awhile, and if so, did ...

Re: What do you bitter with?
Ive all but given up on early hops. I tend to use quite a lot of late hops and make light beers, so I get almost all the bittering I need late on. When I do use early bittering, I go for whatever is around and the most economical by using high AA.
