Re: The Hangover
Today I'm doing first brew in a long time, and my 12th all grain brew. It's loosely based on a hopback summer lightning recipe, and is being called The Hangover because that's how I'm feeling right now (still). 5.7kg pale malt 0.3kg crystal 150 50g Challenger 60 min 16g EKG 10 min 16g EKG flame out...

Re: Temp probe position on outside of keg, has a big effect!
For beer that's finished fermenting, I move the probe from the side of the FV into a bottle filled with water. This seems to better represent the temperature of the beer in the Keg.

Re: AG#17 - Cascade Chinook Apollo Pale
On the boil over,at those levels you may have prevented it if you had held back the final runnings, say 2 litres, let the rest boil and evaporate a bit then drip the final running back in over time to not drop the boil too much. I've used that method several times to good effect but it does mean you...

Recipe here... http://www.toastale.com/toast-ale-recipe/
I wonder if it actually adds anything or if it's just another way of disposing of waste. I know a baker so might give it a go...

What happens if you overfill a bottle and don't leave a gap?
There was some chat on another thread about the effects of overfilling or not leaving an air gap in bottles when filling and what might happen as a result. (Here's the link to the discussion http://www.jimsbeerkit.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=78017 ). I happened to be bottling up a pale ale when...

Re: Rousing flocculant yeast
As this is your first time, I'd suggest leaving be and seeing how it goes. If you then encounter a problem, try addressing it when you know what that problem is. Can't see much point in taking action against an un-proven issue and risking introducing a different problem unnecessarily. That said, I'v...

Interesting read that - thanks.k1100t wrote:West Country White Ale, a lost English beer. I believe Stuart Howe, then of Sharp's, now of Harbour, brewed a White Ale. Might be worth dropping them an email or tweet...

Long Lost Cornish Beers
I'm looking to brew a beer that the Cornish of the past would have enjoyed but we can no more.
Does anyone have any memories of anything they wish was still around and, perhaps, more poignantly, a recipe?

Re: Ullage......
My guess is they either forgot to add primer to their feeder tank when bottling or didn't mix it well enough and you got the bottles with no primer. Doesn't explain filling to the cap though, that's amateur. I'd take them back and explain your experience to help them fix the problems before they bui...

Sorry but the taste is very very unlikely to change over time. Sounds like insufficient rinsing or over supply of cleanser. Either way, once it's in there...

Re: Small scale commercial.
I think you'd be able to designate areas of the premises as licensed meaning you can brew in another part of the house/garden/shed/wherever for yourself. It's a big commitment to go commercial but most of the pain is a one off so if you have thought it through properly and see a future, it's probabl...

Re: Rousing hops in primary
Think at 1014 you'd have to do some pretty heavy rousing to worry about reintroducing the cake into suspension. My experience suggests you'd probably just move a bit about a bit which as you say may helpfully drag some of the hop mess down with it anyway. To be honest, I reckon that 175g in 19 litre...
