Yeast Starter

I have a pack of white labs WLP002 English ale yeast purepitch pack, and am planning a 10 gallon brew at the weekend. I am trying to work out what size DME starter to make, but not having much joy. I would appreciate some advice on what calculators are about or what size starter would be wise. The p...

Re: Recovering yeast for my next batch?

Thanks Orlando, for an informative reply. The yeast is a whitlabs English ale liquid yeast. So should be all good there. I'm beyond the initial 3-4 days now would it be ok theres still a good head on the fermenter? Are you saying if I take some of the Krausen, with a little wort and store it in a st...

Recovering yeast for my next batch?

I have a brew in my ferementor at the moment, and plan on doing another very soon. Probably in a week or so when I have time. My present brew has been I the fermenter for about 6 days now. Would appreciate some advice on how best to harvest the yeast for my next batch. I was wondering if top croppin...

Re: Double dropping brew.

Are you suffering clarity issues or just trying to improve on a good beer? Sent from my ONEPLUS A6003 using Tapatalk As I say it's a while since I last brewed anything at all and it was with old plastic barrels, I have since upgraded my entire brewery to a full stainless steel setup. Last time I br...

Re: Double dropping brew.

Thanks guys,

Reading up on it I seem to be getting very much the same answer from many sources, so I think my problem is no more simply leave it as is and don't mess.

Double dropping brew.

I was thinking about using the double drop method on my latest batch of ale, (the first one for a while). I want to try it to see if it makes my final ale any clearer, just not sure I can, I pitched my yeast into a fermenter with no tap which means I am now not sure how to go about transferring it, ...

SS Brewtech InfuSsion Mash Tun

I notice from their website that the SS Brewtech InfuSsion Mash Tun advertises a 5 degree sloped floor. First of all I am guessing that this is a conical slope towards the centre drain? I am intrigued to understand what benefit this adds, is it simply to reduce dead space? Sent from my SM-G950F usin...

Re: Stainless Fermenter

A few more adventurous options are https://www.en.sansonestore.com/ and I just came across these guys http://liquidsolutions.co.uk/equipment/tanks-and-vessels.html That's a great find Simon. I wonder if anybody has ever used them before.. It seems they have a range of off the shelf and custom desig...

Re: Stainless Fermenter

I'd go for a standard pot then, brewbuilders cheapest are ideal , in fact i've got one that I'm planning on doing the same with a maxi (already got one) to cool via a home made 8mm ss coil when funds allow , and have the sensor through the lid too with something like this http://www.bacbrewing.com/...

Re: Stainless Fermenter

what do you want to do with it regarding addons? With regards to add-ons.. Would probably look to add in a cooling coil, and heating with a temperature sensor to give temperature control. Would want to have it airtight and add a pressure relief mechanism to it also. This is all nice to haves but no...

Stainless Fermenter

Could anybody recommend any stainless steel pots like the ones commonanly available from France to make into a fermenter.. Have seen that Brew Builder sells ready made stainless fermenters, but buying one will take all the fun out of it. Making one if i have the pot is not a problem, I have access t...

Re: Backer Element Shrouds

I've got three 2.75kW of that design - two new style backer elements (one replacement for the poorly finished one), one old style backer element (better quality metal, different element shape). I also have a 2.4kW non-backer. All are fine with KM8 locknuts. Thanks think I'll chance the KM8 nuts.. H...

Re: Backer Element Shrouds

These are the elements I have, I am guessing that they are very different to the ones available now.. I believe these are 2.75kw not the 2.4kw that seem really available these days.. Will try and chop the supplied back nut down today as a temporary fix and see what I can do from there. Maybe try and...
