Re: Irish Craft Beers

Hi all, got a trip to Dublin planned this weekend and has anyone got any Irish craft beers/breweries to look out for? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk There's an app for that! http://www.beoir.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=195:beoirfinder-app-now-available-for-android-and-ios&c...

Re: Cornie dry hopper

Yeah - I'm fairly ambivalent about mine as well (could even be persuaded to part with it for the right price :) ). I think that they are a bit fiddly, for a start - I had to put a hoseclamp round the underside of my gas vent, and then attach thread to that, as I couldn't get a good seal with thread...

Re: Cornie dry hopper

Thanks everyone. Saved me spending even more money. I think I will give these methods a try instead.

Cornie dry hopper

Anybody know of any hombrew shops that sell the cornie dry hopper? I know Brewbuilder sells them but want to order some ingredients and would rather only pay shipping once.

Re: Where can I get IPA glasses?

..for a reasonable price. I mean this shape, at least 330ml, and unbranded: https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/31TR1e5BwmL._SY300_.jpg ... but I can't see them for less than £7 per glass. Anyone know a cheaper source, including any postage? 6 for £31.05 & FREE Delivery in the UK. http...

Re: pH pen tester

Your local "Grow shop" is a good place to get PH storage solution and buffers at a reasonable price.

Re: pH pen tester

I have almost run out of deionised water which I originally got from Wilkos.Unfortunately they now only sell topping up water which must contain additives and says quite clearly "not for human consumption" I would not use this on the electrode in case of damage. Get mine in Tescos. http://www.tesco...

Re: Beer Gun or counter pressure filler

I use one of these Carbonation caps to fill bottles from Keg. Its easy enough but a little time consuming if you where planning on doing a full batch but If you only do a few a time its a cheap option. They are also very usefull for cleaning your kegerator line. Are there any issues with oxygen whe...

Re: Beer Gun or counter pressure filler

I would like to bottle from my kegs and have been looking at beer guns and CP fillers would a CP filler be better than a beer gun as it seals the bottle and equalises the pressure keeping foaming down or is that overkill ..or is it just a case of keeping everything cold and using a beer gun ? I use...

Re: Yeast Starter

I find that the beersmith calculator isn't much use, especially if you're using multiple steps. I use this one... http://www.yeastcalculator.com/ Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk I do question the figures on these. That would have you pitch 3 packets of US-05 into a 20L 1.050 ale, taking into ac...

Re: Yeast Starter

The easiest route, without a larger starter vessel, would be to get a standard lager on the go, using the yeast you've cultured, then harvest what you need from the subsequent yeast cake. I have a couple of kgs of pilsner malt lying around. I will do a small 10 liter batch with that and yeast I hav...

Re: Yeast Starter

If you keep decanting after a short time you're selecting out the cells that are better at finishing up. But I wouldn't worry too much. One experiment found many people preferred seriously under pitched beer Thanks. I have underpitched before when doing a lager and it didnt turn out well. The short...

Yeast Starter

I am making a yeast starter from a pack of Wyeast 2035(Packaging Date 12/15). Beersmith tells me that I need 500billion cells. So I went ahead and made up a 2 liter starter. If i am correct this should give me 200Billion cells? Then I decanted off and added another 2 liters of wort. According to var...

dean_wales wrote:Not so fast! Im sure there was a video on here, possibly from the supplier, showing that although not designed to the units can happily run when submersed.

Anyone have that link/info?
Yes, the pumps from http://www.solarproject.co.uk are submersible.
