Re: Where is the thin bleach? and what can I use instead?
Any farm supply store will stock 20 to 25 litre drums of dairy hypochlorite , I have always used it.

Re: Leaf hop supplies
I find that using 40-50% leaf the rest can be pellets with no problems filtering, I leave to settle for 20 mins after boiling then chill through the plate cooler. My filter is a simple square of 15mm copper with slots and 3mm holes on the underside, covered in a medium coarse nylon bag.

Re: Dealing with Hops
I always use a mix of pellets and leaf, as long as there is over 40% leaf content my copper pipe filter in my boiler works fine.

Re: Dairy Bleach
Never worry, just dollop in a splash same as using any other bleach, rinse two or three times after as normal and no smell remains

Re: Paul's Malt
Myself and three other brewer friends have been using it for the last few months and has been as good as any other malt I have used.
We have tried the pale malt, maris otter malt, cyrstal malt and the lager malt, no problems with any of them.
Hope this helps.

Re: Dairy Bleach
I use dairy sodium hypochlorite for sterilizing my brew kit and have done for years, buy 25 litres at a time for use in dairy so just fill a squeezy bottle from there.

Re: Dave Line & Lost Beers
Looks like Dave Lines was a starting influence for many of us "older" brewers who following his recipes found we could make beer we could be proud of and enjoy.

Re: Dave Line & Lost Beers
I started brewing AG after reading Dave Lines book, first brew was a clone of London Pride. Thie difference from tweaking kits and malt extract brews was amazing, first proper beer I ever made. That was 25 years ago and have made nearly a couple of hundred brews now... thanks to Dave.

Re: Replacing 2.4kw element with 3kw.
I used to have two 3kw elements in my 100 litre pot till they departed this life, now have two 2.4 kw ones and to be honest don't notice any difference in the time it comes to boil.

I have used one of these for several years with no problems, helps by being waterproof.

Re: Dry yeast reuse
I often reuse the yeast from a brew made with Gervin/Nottingham dried yeast to ferment the next brew, works a treat. I don't wash it, just use the yeast slurry.

I bought one, it was only 1 or 1.5kw so pretty useless for me.

Smallest brew ever
Now being of a careful disposition and not liking waste I have just bottled off my smallest batch ever, a total of seven pints. It has come about from saving the leftovers from my boiler, I have a 100 litre boiler and when draining off am left with about a litre and a half of murky wort. These have ...
