Re: Percarbonate as a Disinfectabt
I don’t use cleaners to disinfect. I use PBW followed with Starsan. For yeast propagation I use iodophor.

Re: Kozel Dark
Resurrecting this thread following a recent trip to Prague where I had several “pints” of Kozel Dark. It’s a lovely beer which put me in mind of a Dark mild, but with a lager like crispness. I have some cans of Kozel Černý in the fridge now. That’s exactly how I would describe it. It’s only 3.8% I ...

Re: Water profile for Shepherd Neame
IMG_0097.jpeg I’ve heard of and seen old cans of Blue Ribbon malt extract used during and after prohibition. In Laurel and Hardy, Pardon Us, they buy ingredients from a homebrew store which surprised me. I guess in some states home production and consumption was tolerated. Stan tries to sell a bott...

Re: Water profile for Shepherd Neame
Don’t forget malt extract can be considered boiled wort. And I remember you telling me to be careful of adding alkalinity that won’t be reduced with boiling and carrying over to the fermenter.

Re: Grain Gorilla
The O ring is a #124 apparently. Pictures and Jack Schmidling’s response with O ring and bushing replacement are here: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/threads/want-to-repair-a-schmedling-unadjustable-maltmill.682419/ I never replaced the O ring because it isn’t needed. My Maltmill is manual only now an...

Re: Grain Gorilla
My current thinking is that the bearings on the 2nd roller have got a bit clogged with malt flour and need cleaning and lubricating. It should spin very freely so this is what I would check first. Hopefully it comes apart easily. The only mill I disassembled was the Schmidling because he put a rubb...

Re: English Trappist Beer
Initially it was just like a poor attempt at homebrewing. I was just thinking about how the American brewery Ommegang was like that at first. Now they are World Class. A lot of breweries take a little while to get the kinks out. I was very pleasantly surprised at the quality of beer a nearby brewpu...

It’s considered outstanding now.

The brown (7.4%) might be the only one available in the US. I’ll buy a bottle if I ever see one but I don’t think it’s distributed near me.

Re: English Trappist Beer
Tynt Meadow is sold in the US so they must have sorted some of their capacity problems. It’s only available in a few states though and I’ve never seen it. It’s a shame Spencer in Massachusetts didn’t have this problem and stopped brewing. Their beer was excellent but their distributor must have been...

Re: Mash Tun Filter
I have a stainless false bottom in my Igloo cooler, but I think the round coolers are hard to find in the UK?
Mine has holes but now you can get slotted ones which should be better. I use a BIAB bag in the mash tun which works extremely well.

Unfortunately this yeast is being discontinued
Lallemand Brewing will no longer be producing LalBrew Köln™ in the foreseeable future. We invite you to contact your local supplier(s) to know if they have stocks left or to reach out for replacement options within the LalBrew range.

Re: The marmalade in Fullers
Recently made a smash with marria otter and some (homegrown) first gold. ... I bet you didn't expect a spelling lesson posting on this forum. Although it's usually me who's IPA's victim, and I have suggested I've used Maris Piper (potato) for making beer before now. You wouldn't expect your beer po...

This is an interesting article on Duvel, and suggests they use a different yeast for bottle conditioning.

34/70 (https://fermentis.com/en/product/saflager-w-34-70/) is a forgiving yeast that ferments a little warmer than liquid lager yeasts. I use it in the winter when my basement is around 13C.
