Re: Can anything survive the boil?
Interesting to hear other people's routines. In answer to some questions - one musty batch was using US-05 and the other was using "West Coast Style" yeast - nice yeast BTW. I try not to expose the beer to the outside world, but it's possible the infections get in when I transfer from boiler to FV a...

Two cold, one hot and another cold one. I'm pretty sure it's not that.Underground Joe wrote:How many rinses do you give your keg after the chlorine sterliser?

Re: Can anything survive the boil?
It's got to be something post-boil then. I'm fermenting in one of these and using a King Keg TT for a keg. I always strip down the individual parts (including the barrel tap) to clean it. I've been cleaning with washing up detergent and sanitising with a chlorine-based steraliser. I'm wondering if i...

Can anything survive the boil?
I'm having trouble with a really persistent infection that gives the beer a musty/TCP type taint after about a month in the keg. I've been paying special attention to sanitising all the equipment that the beer comes into contact with after the boil, but I'm now wondering about the rest of the kit. I...

Re: Malt mill from brewuk - any good?
Just thought I'd pop back in to post about my experience with this, having just used it for the first time. Overall, the build quality is pretty poor, with a bit of jiggling required here and there to get it all to fit together. As Cazamodo says, the grinding plate isn't flat to the stationary one, ...

Re: Citra and/or Cascade
It's probably just my dodgy brewing skills, but I've had a couple of goes at a Citra/Cascade brew and it's never turned out right. I've done Citra and Cascade single hoppers which have been lovely, but I've never managed to get them to mix nicely.

Re: Gas in Cambridge
If you can bodge something up from an S30 cylinder, Cutlacks down Mill Road are supposed to do them, but I've never actually managed to get one out of them - there always seems to be supplier problems. I gave up in the end and got it online. Might be worth giving them a bell if you are desperate?

Re: Salifert Test Kit for Alkalinity
There's no mention of them being discontinued on their wibbly web site - http://www.salifert.com/pt/kh.htm and there doesn't seem to be any shortage online. I think someone can't be arsed to restock.

Re: Water temperature and ph strips
If you are reading it at room temperature as opposed to mash temperature, you can take about 0.3 off the room temp reading to get the mash temp value. Then again these strips are pretty inaccurate anyway.

Re: Temperature Controlled Fermenting Cupboard Questions
These cheap larder fridges are hard to come by. Everyone seems to he doing it though so it must just be there's less on offer down here in Cornwall. I got a couple off Gumtree, which seems to get newly added ones every day or so. The first one I bought was too small, so make sure you check your int...

The ones I've got, which are about the same age as yours, are 2.4 KW.

Re: AG#26 - Cambourne 2
First indications are that this one has come out a bit rubbish, sadly. I think the ingredients were just too old. The Stella is coming across as bland and I can barely even taste any of the Citra.

It's this stuff - http://www.inoxia.co.uk/rw/product/137.aspx If you are planning on using pellets you might want to use a finer mesh.John Price wrote:What size mesh do you use?
