Re: Hop Strainer Problems
A photo of your hop strainer in-situ showing what you're trying to connect it to might help.

Re: Grainfather disaster
Mine has the seal on both plates... The bottom one is a tight fit but it can move if you knock the overflow pipe. I inspected the plates after the brew and the bottom one was slightly malformed, like a wonky vinyl record. I've bent it back as well as I could and it seems to sit a bit better now. Hop...

Re: Grainfather disaster
Out of curiosity, slipped how? My bottom filter plate is a tight fit there is no room for lateral movement or is there something I need to watch for? I really don't know. I'm just guessing based on the available evidence... The mash went well and the recirculating wort was crystal clear, so I'm ass...

Grainfather disaster
Just had a right nightmare with my second brewday on the grainfather... I'm not entirely sure what happened, but my sparge water pretty much fell through the grain bed in 2 mins flat, which was a pretty big indication of a problem. Once I removed the malt pipe for the boil, I realised I had a HUGE a...

Re: Pipette size for a refractometer?
Doesn't really matter... You only need a couple of drops, so even 1ml is overkill.

Re: What's the one thing i can do to improve my beer?
Depends on your water supply. For some people the fridge will be the better option, for others their water might be unsuitable for most beer styles and needs to be treated before they can brew anything half decent.

I think they mean this http://www.the-home-brew-shop.co.uk/acatalog/Dry_beer_Enzyme.html#.VWB4i09VhBc its an enzyme that breaks down the non fermentable sugars further like in the mash. I also have never used it. It's not really "like in the mash". Amylase enzymes in the mash chop large carbohydrat...

Re: Yeast for Imperial Porter?
As an alternative I'm wondering about the McEwans strain - WLP028. That would do a lovely job of it. One of my favourite strains. Any tips on how to handle it? It's pretty easy going. I've used it quite cool at 17-18c for hoppy pales with a cleanish profile and right up to 24c 50/50 with WLP530 in ...

Re: Injecting C02
but with the 8g carts you have no way of controlling the flow... Just one squirt would be plenty to pop the lid quite violently I'd imagine.
If you want to start co2 purging and aiming for an oxygen-free workflow post-ferment, it's time to go shiny.

FVs and bottling buckets won't hold pressure. You'll just blow the lid off.

Re: Regulator
That thing looks prehistoric. Does it have a test sticker anywhere on it? Also it looks to have a preset output pressure of 35psi, which is too high. It's probably designed to be used with secondary regulators to step down to serving pressure. Mixed gas is not really what you want for lager anyway....

Re: copper wort chiller for 100 litre pan
You can get some pretty cheap plate chillers from china if you're willing to wait a few weeks... I have one exactly like this: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Stainless-Plate-Wort-Chiller-11-plates-Brewing-Chiller-1-2-male-NPT-X-3-4-male/1532360807.html?spm=2114.32010308.4.269.vcm08W Probably doesn't...
