Re: Citra or Northern Brewer for bittering?

I boiled mine for 60 mins, brewed the same way as always - the long boil helps with protein breakdown and coagulation(from what I remember). I suppose you could boil for less time, I'm not sure how short you could go though. Also you would have to adjust your pre boil volume as you won't lose as muc...

Re: Citra or Northern Brewer for bittering?

I've done a pale and caramalt all citra brew - I didn't add a bittering addition, just added the hops from 20 mins towards the end of the boil every 5 mins.
I got something like 35ibu and a massive citra punch - was a nice brew!

My cascade and fuggle are about 6ft high! The chinook and golding are still a few inches, ive just fed them all with miracle grow - 2nd year for all of them - I have high hopes :-)

Re: First brew on braumeister 20l

I think I sparged with 6 litres of water on that first brew, that beer isn't the best - I used mangrove jacks yeast and it took ages to clear - its still quite murky - also not the nicest flavour, I think thats due to a possible under pitch as the brew turned out at about 6.4%. My second brew has tu...

First brew on braumeister 20l

Hello! Just finished my first brew on the 20l Braumeister - I'm happy with the whole brewday overall. A few things I noticed - during the boil I there where lots of particles floating around in the boil - I first thought this was due to grain passing through the filters - I scooped some of this out ...

Re: Planted 5 hop varieties...help me choose the 6th

I'd probably get something to go with the Saaz - ive got the same hops as you, minus the saaz - I made a bitter with the goldings and fuggle, and an IPA with the cascade and chinook. I've never made a lager but I've made a wheat beer with hallertauer hersbrucker - I think that could be paired with t...

You should be able to screw a plastic pressure barrel tap into the krausen and serve. :-)

Re: Plant pot size for hop rhiazones

I grew all mine in pots - I bought the biggest I could find(70litre I think!) I grew cascade, goldings, fuggle and chinook - out of all of them the chinook yielded the best harvest and ive managed to brew two beers with the hops I harvested. I just watered them regularly and fed them every two weeks...

Re: Worth the effort?

I grow mine in pots - you need to water them frequently and feed them once in a while - they seem to take care of themselves to an extent.

Re: Ready to pick?

Cheers Scuppeteer - its just short term storage until the whole harvest is available - hopefully a week and a half max as they are all ripening at different times.

Re: Ready to pick?

Do think they will be ok to freeze? as about 1/3 of mine are ripe and the rest still a bit small - i want to use them all in one brew.

Re: Hop Growing 2015

Anyone had a harvest yet? My fuggle and golding have both got small hops on them(and flowers) - the cascade and chinook are still small flowers.
