Re: Midget Widget World

Re: Recirculation pump on an ACE boiler

thanks for the info, i have bottom taps on the vessels - just looking to try to automate the re-circulation as simply and cheaply as possible. not going to continually re-cirulate the mash, just re-circulate at the end of the mash to clarify before running off. also looking to re-circulate in the ke...

Re: Recirculation pump on an ACE boiler

do you reckon this would safely hang over the edge of a boiler/mash-tun or does it need to be fixed in the hole to be stable? i've been thinking about something similar as a multi-purpose recicrculator that can be hung over the edge of any vessel. cheaper and easier than drilling holes and putting t...

Re: Water to garage

i've been using a hosepipe from an outside tap for a couple of years with no obvious problems - although it is a kaercher pthalate and lead free one. no ill effects and nobody has noticed any plastic flavours. the water is flying through the pipe, it isn't sitting around in contact with it. although...

how much do you want for it? i looked into shipping one from the US last month, would cost more in postage than the burner itself costs!

thanks, it's not cheap then but not silly and well worth considering and as you say it'll last a lifetime.

Re: AG#57 - Green Hop

I've had my eye on one of those burners for a while, the 7.5KW Hamilton one I have is terrific for 23L batches but I've been thinking of up-sizing and I doubt it'll manage with 60-70L. does the blichmann connection fit on a Calor gas bottle or did you have to adapt it? they aren't cheap but then nei...

Re: Your best investments?

a stir plate, doesn't save any time, in fact it makes work compared to opening a pack of dry yeast, but since i started growing up a proper pitch of yeast there's been a step change in the results.

Re: Pressure loss

have you checked the Pressure Relief Valve? when venting kegs i've noticed mine can leak a litle if the ring you lift with isn't back in the right place.

9L cornie post o-ring replacements

i have a 9L cornie bought from norm a few years back, the original o-ring has split and i've replaced it with a spare but it leaks when gas is connected. it doesn't leak when i take the disconnect off and it holds pressure so i'm assuming that the fault is with the o-ring. the uk based spares suppli...

Re: new keggerator - but no gas - fixed!

so turns out it was a problem with a knob, i.e. me being one. the regs have a nut on the front and a ring behind it, i thought you turned the ring to adjust the pressure, but you turn the nut. beer needs a few more days to carbonate properly, but after 5 odd years of brewing i can finally dispense p...

new keggerator - but no gas

so i spent the weekend turning a norfrost mini-freezer into a 2 cornie keggerator: built a collar which fits nicely, taps mounted, stc-1000 in place holding a good temperature, two previously naturally carbonated kegs now nicely chilled, but i haven't had a beer yet because i can't get the regulator...

a new boiler?

morning all. i've had no problems with my H+G plastic boiler, but i'm thinking of upgrading to something more solid mainly because i want to brew more often in smaller quantities and at higher gravities. i'm not confident that the kettle elements are up to the job of boiling 1070+ worts and if they ...

Re: AG#23: Saison

well, i got 19l at 1066 which i diluted down to 21 @ 1062. pitched at 25C and in a warm corner of the kitchen it's been between 70 and 75 for a week and now down to 1014. On the American forums they are plenty of complaints about this being a difficult yeast but it seems happy enough- it's an unusua...
