Re: Fullers London Pride AG clone

Like you, I find that Pride varies a lot from pub to pub. So I don't do my comparisons against the cask version, even though this is a clone of the cask Pride. I compare against the bottled version and trust that fullers have put a lot of money and effort into ensuring that their bottled version tas...

Re: Fullers London Pride AG clone

I have been trying to mail down a London Pride clone for a couple of years now and think I have finally nailed. Tasted my latest batch, brewed three weeks ago, alongside a real Pride and it is very close. I doubt I could tell the difference in a blind tasting. If there is any difference at all, mine...

Which freezer to use for keezer build?

I'm planning on building myself a keezer. It must hold at least 4 cornies, preferably 6. The gas bottle doesn't need to go inside. Instead of contacting every eBay seller and asking them the internal dimensions of their freezers, I thought it would be a lot easier to survey you lot for the brands an...

Re: Brut ipa

When are people adding the enzyme? Most posts I've read in Brut IPA it is being added in the fermenter but the the product description on the Malt Miller web site suggests it is optimal to add to the mash Where to add the product To mash conversion vessel, fermenter, or post-fermentation, depending ...

On my list to brew. Bought the enzyme, just not had the chance to use it as yet.
Where did you get the enzyme from? It's on my list too but haven't been able to find a source.

Where can I find corny poppet valves?

Hi
Does anyone know where I can source some proper poppet valves for corny kegs? I'm after the all-in-one type where the spring and valve is integrated into a single unit, not the type that you see on eBay with the spring and valve as separate pieces.
Cheers

South East water profiles

If you live in an area serviced by South East Water, this is a fairly hand tool: https://www.southeastwater.co.uk/my-water-supply/my-water-looks-smells-strange/check-your-water-quality-hardness Enter your post code and it returns hardness as CaCO3 and there is a link below to a full water report. It...

Re: Floating dip tube for corny

Cool, looks good. Have you a had a chance to test one yet? I have a couple of them and they work really well. The only problem that I have is getting the silicon tube over the stainless steel dip tube of the keg post. It is a very tight fit and difficult to do even outside of the keg. Trying to do ...

Re: Crystal malt in a Bohemian Pilsner

S_I_M, have you done this brew yet? What was the mash pH about 10-15 mins in? I brewed mine today. Very similar grain bill to SIM except added phosphoric acid to my mash water (40ml @10% concentration in 18 litres of mash water) because the mice got into my acidulated malt. Mash pH at 30 mins was 5...

Re: Crystal malt in a Bohemian Pilsner

My next attempt at a Bohemian Pilsner will be made as follows, using a no-sparge single infusion mash process, and mashing at 68 degrees C. in 9 gallons (34 L) of the above very low mineralization ersatz Pilsen water, with the following grist, etc...: Swaen Pilsner malt: 11 Lbs. (5 Kg.) Weyermann M...

Re: Crystal malt in a Bohemian Pilsner

Are you going to acidify the mash and sparge water to: 1) Hit pH 5.4 during the mash. 2) Sparge with 5.4 pH water. #1 will require noticeably more acid than #2, since Pilsner Malt (although somewhat acidic with respect to pH 7) can effectively be seen as being basic with respect to a mash target of...

Re: Crystal malt in a Bohemian Pilsner

I was rushing and screwed up the water profile in the previous post. Correction as follows... Mash water(18l) is 50% tap water, 50% Tesco Ashbeck; to which I add 1g Calcium Chloride and 0.6g Gypsum to give me the following water profile for the mash: Ca 52 Mg 4 Na 9 SO4 40 Cl 41 HCO3 75 This gives t...

Re: Crystal malt in a Bohemian Pilsner

This is the recipe I'm going to go for. The only change to my previous recipe is to substitute 150g of Munich malt for Melanoidin malt. I'll brew it next weekend and let you know how it turns out. Ingredients 17.00 L Home tap water 17.00 L Tesco Asbeck bottled water 5.00 kg Pilsner, Bohemian Floor M...

Re: Crystal malt in a Bohemian Pilsner

Thanks for all the useful suggestions. I'm going to try the melanoidin malt because it seems to be designed to dowhat I'm looking for. For those that have used it before, would around 150g in a 5 gallon batch be perceptible?.
