First Time Winemaker - Oak Timings
I've been a member here for quite some time (and been brewing for a lot longer), but I find myself at a loss. I decided to dip my toe into the water/wine, and bought a Solomon Grundy Cabernet Sauvignon kit. The instructions are pretty straight forward and easy to follow. However, I know my palate an...

Re: Mosaic Pale Ale.
Galaxy in a single hop ale is great. But as with all things brewing, it can be improved upon. After getting the basic flavour profile, I started adding various combinations of either Motueka, NZ Cascade, Rakau and/or Wai-iti.
All different = all good.

Re: water treatment for cider?
Would it at least be best to boil it first to drive off chlorine etc..?? I've got a Pear Cider kit to do and they're not cheap to mess up! If you leave water over night the chlorine evaporates naturally. It's the chloromines you want to get rid of when brewing beer. Hence, leaving the water for a c...

I've been using mine for BIAB in standard form for over 5 years. It doesn't need any modifications apart from keeping the element clean.

Re: What is your favourite Australia/New Zealand hop variety
I require a regular supply of PoR around April every year. I produce a Coopers Sparkling clone along with a Coop's PA and Dark. All of which use PoR and The WL Australian Ale yeast. It was unavailable a few years ago so I bought 500g from a stockist in Adelaide and collected on my travels back there...

Before use give it a shake, then take cap off, pour out starsan and bottle is ready for use.

Re: WAI-ITI HOPS
I've used them quite a few times. I love 'em.
I would bitter with a small percentage of Magnum and then stick a shit load in late. Hold some back for dry hopping. Generally I use 100g in a 23 litre brew.

Re: Saflager W-34/70
Not wishing to piss all over your bonfire, but I have never had a decent results with W34/70. It might just be me, but if you are going to all the trouble of producing a lager then it pays to use a liquid yeast. Shortcuts seldom work and they haven't for me. But, as I say, It might just be me. That...
