Re: A total newbie to water treatment has some questions

Fermentation fridge questions

Hi. sorry if this is the wrong place for this question but I thought that it would be seen by more people. I have a Hotpoint fridge that I am thinking of using as a controlled temp fermenting fridge. I have a few questions. 1, I believe that I will need to drill a hole in the top of the fridge to pa...

A total newbie to water treatment has some questions

I've been brewing for some years now mostly using biab. I have recently invested in a Grainfather which is a great bit of kit. I have been pondering water treatment but a lot of it goes completely over my head. With this in mind I have a few questions. I am planning on continuing to use my tap water...

Re: to sparge, or not to sparge, that is the question.....

I mash in an old cool box, it holds about 15l. I batch sparge by lifting the bag into a spare fermenter and adding another 15l of hot water. leave it to sit for about 10 mins then lift and squeeze. I reckon that I manage to rinse out any remaining sugar and potential flavour with this method. This g...

Re: New Sodastream adapter - again!

Does anyone know where I can get an adapter to fit the old style soda stream gas bottle so that I can use it on my s-30 king keg?
Thanks.

Re: Mash lengths

Thanks for all the replies, it looks like I shall have to give the 60 min method a whirl and see how it goes. It may well mean that I could get a brew knocked up before going to work. I have recently invested in a "no chill" cube but so far have not tried the results but it did knock about an hour o...

Mash lengths

How long do brewers mash for these days?
I personally have been mashing for 90 mins but am always up for alternative ways.
is anyone mashing for 60 minutes or even less? does this have any impact upon finished brews?

Re: Keeping the brew at the correct temperature

Guys, This fella is either failing to be convinced of anything even after all of your helpful replies or he is simply trolling you all. I am not sure which.
Many useful suggestions have been made but he does not appear to be happy with any of them. It is now up to him as to what he wishes to do.

Re: Dry hopping query

Keeping hops in the freezer is supposed to help preserve the alpha acids in the hops from fading away. If they are not kept cold or at least airtight the flavour will fade in time.

Re: bottles clouding on opening

Something that I have noticed is that Kits often take longer than AG to ferment out. well, they do in my house anyway.

Youngs Red IPA

HI, I knocked up one of these kits just over a week ago. The instructions state that I should add the dry hops at anything below 1.013 and that it should be ok to bottle at 1.010. The kit is currently at 1.014 and has been for two days, it is in a warmish room so temp should not be an issue. I have ...

Re: Sanitized Bottles

I would imagine that any risk of the bottles becoming infected is possibly down to storage conditions and the length of storage time. Should not hurt if it's only a few days, wouldn't bother myself unless I was really stuck for time, I can usually sanitise the bottles while the beer is transferring ...

Re: BIAB vs All Grain Beer quality and clarity

I brew using biab and I always batch sparge. it enable me to get the required liquid into the boiler as my coolbox mashtun only holds about 15l with the grain in. I just lift the bag out of the water, put it in a bucket and add hot water at about 70C. This then all goes in the pot for boiling. It is...

The Malt Miller sells silicon hose and hose barbs, the hose pushes onto the barb which then screws into the tap. (if you have a tap with a screw thread).
