Re: Putting together a temperature controlled fridge

Thermoelectric probably ideal but I've got mine held against side of fv using camping mat taped to fv. It's worked well for years now.

Re: belgian dubbel yeast recomendations

thanks for the advise i've ordered wlp 500 and see how it turns out. reckon i'll have a go at recovering the yeast from a bottle for the second batch The WLP500 is a good yeast, but I'd make a starter with it to help it on its way. I'd also recommend Chimay yeast from dregs from Chimay Red or Blue ...

Re: Belgian Dubbel

The black malt will change the colour but unfortunately it won't give you a dubbel flavour. Dubbels tend to get their colour and complex maltyness from dark (but not too dark), malts. You don't want the coffee & burnt flavours from very dark malts. As ever Seymour has a recipe here / Special B reall...

Re: 3 keg fridge/freezer?

Max for un undercounter fridge is 2 1/2 cornies, i.e. 2 full size and 1 x 1/2 corny. I use this in my Kegerator. I can do it as the Hotpoint RLA model used has a small compressor cover and I use a heat lamp rather than a bulky tubular heater. more info here http://www.data-creative.com/img/other/keg...

Re: Tall and narrow fermenters

Could you ferment in kegs? That's given me an idea. PM asd on here, he has a load of those non returnable plastic kegs that a few guys on here bought, they can act as fermentors as well as er kegs. There only a few quid each and may just be the perfect size, only height might be the issue. Does som...

Re: Perry - anyone done this from pears?

I've tasted a few bottles now , unexpectedly mild pear flavour but it develops after a few mouthfuls. Actually very nice, I'll be begging for more fruit next autumn! Definitely recommended Sounds good. I find the batches I do with added pears always have a (small) residual sweetness that I don't ge...
