Re: Advice on DIY boilers
I am yet to brew as I am still putting the finishing touches to my kit. I had the same SWMBO problem and so I bought a 2mx2m gazebo 50 quid with sides. I plan to run 1 extension from the upstairs ring and 1 from downstairs. My setup is: a Buffalo to boil the water ( We have a combi boiler so I can u...

Re: Help with gravity/sugar addition plz - may have cocked u
The must tastes fantastic. Going to add 200 g sugar to the squashed must tomorrow and take another reading. When the first fermentation dies down and I can put it in to a demijohn, will take another reading and adjust for 13% strength. The apples came from the same bloke and are legacy cookers of va...

Help with gravity/suggar addition plz - may have cocked up.
Have been given some grapes from a friend with Noble Mould on them. After a lot of reading decided to leave the mould on and go ahead and make some wine. So mashed them in a bin, took a gravity reading and set about Chapitalizing the must. Took gravity which was 1.070, applied the calculators on Bre...

GRapes with Noble Rot - advice please
I am being given a load of grapes that the owner has informed me have Noble rot. He is in his 80's and has had to give up wine making so he is giving me this years crop. He says that if I use them "as-is" I can make a Tokai type wine, which he has done in the past. Or they can be washed and used in ...

Re: Broughton Old Jock - anyone have a recipe?
Thanks, Seymour. I found it to be dark but not too heavy, the hops are there but not in your face if you get my meaning. Somewhere between Newcastle brown Ale and a standard IPA like Marstons Pedigree. I used to think I liked very hoppy beers, but of late I seem to be going for more malty and darker...

Re: Home brew set ups?
I know for me, when I came back to this 5 or so years ago, I found that there is so much variety of kit now compared to the olden days that a second, then third fermenter followed. If you want a constant supply of beer, at least 2 is needed. One in bottles, one or two at various stages of fermentati...
