Best bottles I've come across for getting the labels of are Harviestoun Bitter and Twisted, quick soak in cold water for an hour or so and the labels just slide off with no gunk! Oh and the contents are pretty tasty too :) http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z89/wastedpic/DSC00126.jpg These are the ...

How long did you leave your goldinds in the fermenter for ? Yes, It was just overnight. From arriving home lagered up from a party on Sunday night when it seemed like a good idea, until Monday afternoon when i wasn't so sure. I split a 50g bag of goldings between the wherry and a Coopers stout. I b...

My Wherry raced down to 1020 in three days then seemed to stick, but I’ve just checked and its now 1016 after a week. This has happened before. The first time I made Wherry I didn’t have a hydrometer, I just left it in the fv for 10 days before bottling. Now I keep checking it but it l...

Thanks
I meant buckets. I‘ve opened the lid a crack. Should I snap it down when fermentation slows down?

Fermenting Barrel- Airlock

I have been using a Young’s fermenting barrel and it has an airlock hole, two new barrels I have bought don’t. I brewed two different kits yesterday one is gurgling away very reassuringly the other is of course silent, should I occasionally release the lid and release the pressure? :?:...

I’m drinking my first turbo 9 days after starting it. I poured it straight from the fermenter. It’s cloudy dry cider and is hitting the spot. I think this one was just apple juice with few spoons of honey and maybe a few spoons of sugar, definitely Young’s champagne yeast. I mus...

Fizz?

I gather from reading the TC posts that TC is drunk from the fermenter, flat, without fizz. Is this usual for Scrumpy type cider? I have missed out on this bit of our (drinking) culture

I’m only a beginner myself (since Monday). I’ve got Turbo’s going in 5 litre orange squash bottles. I drilled a hole in the caps for airlocks. They are really fizzing.

That’s the other thing I did today. I bought some Champagne yeast and Aldi’s apple juice and shook it up with a few spoons of sugar. Its bubbling away already.

I’ll go and move them now. I was thinking they might like the warm to get the secondary going. I forgot about the sunlight bit, brown bottles and all that.
