Re: St Austell Brewery Yeast

Haven't used a 1st generation scavenge of PJ for quite a while now. The last time I checked (I think mentioned earlier in the thread) there didn't seem much of a sediment in the bottles but if you're getting success - even from 1 bottle, time for me to try again. I think the most 'generations' I di...

Re: St Austell Brewery Yeast

I too have used this yeast for a recent brew. My yeast calculator told me I only needed a 0.6L starter for my 23L batch  I only used the dregs from a single bottle in about 30ml wort and then stepped up to 0.6L in one go. The starter really did seem to grow nicely, perhaps due to my stir-pla...

Re: St Austell Brewery Yeast

Revisted this yeast. 3 bottle dregs into 1 litre of DME at 1040. Started bubbling within 24 hours. Renewed 1 litre of 1040 DME by pouring off spent wort and off it goes.

This yeast is a hungry beast

Re: Cancelled brewday

brew done. in fermenter, 65 litres of Mosaic pale I like a happy ending! :=P Hi Jim, Ive dropped the beer into a pressure barrel to go onto a hand pull and a couple of cornies. Gassed the kegs up and its clear as a bell and lacing a glass beautifully already. Probably the best beer Ive ever brewed

Re: Cancelled brewday

Cheers guys, Ive just got my brewing mojo back after a long lay off, in part due to one or two disappointing brews. I'm determined that this one will be a good un, leaving nothing to chance. Ive rebuilt everything, ran boiling water through the plate chiller, some crud came out of that too so would ...

Cancelled brewday

So up early this morning to brew a single hop Mosaic pale. Set all brew kit up and ready...looked in HLT and had mould growing on inside. Checked mashtun and it didn't look ace. So deep clean happening today with brew postponed until later in week. Amazing amount of crud in pumps, valves and beersto...

Re: Water giving unpleasant earthy taste?

It can come from the boil off...I got a earthy cardboard taste from brew after brew. Changed yeast, changed hops still the same, then read that the boil can drive off some nasty stuff that reacts with yeast.. Make sure you boil for at least 60 mins at full chat, really give it the beans, then chill ...

Re: St Austell Brewery Yeast

It's live in bottles of Proper Job, buy a couple or three, drink 90%, save the yeast, make a starter, you now have St Austell yeast.😎 What Ive found is that the dregs of 6 bottles consumed whilst watching footy, chomping curry and naan bread is just about viable to get it kicked off...Thats what I ...
