Re: Odd gravity reading

I'm with Eric, I suggest your pre boil wort wasn't mixed so well.

Re: Base Malt Exbeeriment by Norwich Amateur Brewers

A couple of the beers in the pic appear to have better heads....was there a noticeable difference that was seen by everyone in terms of head size/reteniton? Thats a question I wondered. Great effort to all those involved in this experiment In the original post Keith you mention the Hops being home ...

Re: Base Malt Exbeeriment by Norwich Amateur Brewers

That's interesting, especially the marked difference in the colour of the finished product from a group of malts with in the grand scheme of things pretty similar EBC's. A couple of the beers in the pic appear to have better heads....was there a noticeable difference that was seen by everyone in te...

Re: Base Malt Exbeeriment by Norwich Amateur Brewers

Interesting experiment- thanks for sharing. Would be interesting to see how a non-MO grain with an EBC of 5 or 6 compares against MO with equivalent EBC. It would and maybe that’s one for the future. I’m currently doing one comparing 3 Crisp Pilsner malts with Continental Pilsners. Sent from my iPh...

Base Malt Exbeeriment by Norwich Amateur Brewers

Norwich Amateur Brewers Base Malt Exbeeriment The following was kindly written up by NAB member Martin who unfortunately isn't a member here. I'd not refer to myself in such glowing terms! Background Early in 2020, Keith (one of our number) hacked a 10lt tea urn, added a grain basket and wired in a...

Re: Grain Mill advice

I have a Bulldog mill, a reduced price and ebay coupon bought it for £60, I'm happy with mine at that price. I'm not sure I would be at £100. I've seen some complaints of plastic gears stripping on them, this confuses me as mine has metal gears, I don't know if plastic gears replaced the metal or vi...

Re: Hothead yeast

As a test I brewed, fermented at 38c and took a sample to a brew club meeting 7 days later. It wasn’t the best beer I’ve ever made but was surprisingly drinkable.

Re: Growing hops from seed

I've no experience in growing hops from seed. What I do know is that the resultant plant will be an unknown entity, all of the known varieties are clones grown from cuttings or rhizomes, anything from seed is an unknown. Many years are spent by the various hop people crossing varieties, growing from...

Re: Your favourite Graham Wheeler recipe...

Out of the two Altbier recipes would you make the Nussdorf At Thomas or the Zum Uerige Alt? Both sound nice but I'm leaning towards the Zum Uerige for a bit of extra bitterness. I’ve not made the Zum Uerige but did find the Nussdorf a bit over malty, in subsequent versions I’ve upped the hops more ...
