AG#29 - Z Machine (Rye pale)
First of hopefully 3 beers going on today! Named for the Z Machine, which is an x ray generator in the States. A feature on it started me on the road to doing my OU physics degree, so it seemed fair to pay tribute to it in beer form! This is an American hopped rye pale, although why I'm highlighting...

Re: AG#28 - Astatine (American wheat)
Very well ta. Ended up just doing a 25 minute boil. No bittering hops, so why do the full hour? No-chilled and tucked away now, OG of 1.058, volume about 1.5 litres short.ArmChair wrote:How did your brew day go?
Also had a snifter of that Cooper's kit you brought to the brew group. HOPPY!

Re: AG#28 - Astatine (American wheat)
This is an interesting brew Nick :) I love the cascade & anthanum combo You're going to have to stop being the first person to respond to all of my brewday posts, people will talk ;) Fancied doing something a bit different, I have a pale, a brown, a mild and a ruby conditioning! I have high h...

AG#28 - Astatine (American wheat)
Day off looking after the youngest today, so I'm sticking a brew on. This is planned to be an American style wheat (though I've had to sub in some Torri as I ran out of wheat malt) with no early hops at all, 30 IBUs being delivered at the end through the flavour and aroma additions. The mash will be...

Why am I not surprised that the first reply is from you, and says this, Mr Chair?ArmChair wrote:I'm looking forward to trying this, please save me a bottle
Just downed the hops to 8/8/9 grams, because I'd not edited the AA%. And holy cow, they smell fantastic!

AG#27 - Spectroscope (Sorachi brown)
Lazy Sunday at home, hate the sun, ideal opportunity to stay indoors and brew! I've had some Sorachi Ace burning a hole in my hop stock for a while, but wanted to do something unusual with them. I was in Norway earlier in the week, and was drinking Brooklyn Brown Ale, so I thought I'd have a punt at...

Standard Bitter - Whitley Brewery (Oli1979) Nice hiss on opening, and pours a lovely bright copper with a fluffy white head, just how a Standard Bitter should be! Well balanced aroma, with biscuit, floral and a slight metallic bitterness. Classic biscuity, bready nose gives way to a floral aftertast...

Red Head Irish Ale - Joanne's Garage Brewery (can't remember the username for this one!) Lightly carbed with a lovely colour that's on the border between deep copper and ruby. Earthy aroma with hints of red fruit. Dry and malty on the nose with a delicate fruitiness. Gentle bitterness comes through ...

Re: Reviews of Member's Homebrew
Badger's Revenge - Oli1979 Quite high carbonation; got half a pint of beer and half of head! Really dark colour with ruby highlights. Magic fruity aroma, smells really refreshing. Fruit on the nose is quickly joined by a sweet sticky malt flavour and a bit of alcoholic heat on the tongue and the bac...

C IPA - Unknown Brewery
Good hiss to open, no head but pleasantly carbed light golden ale. Zesty fruit salad aroma promises refreshment. Zesty fruit on the nose with a light sweet malt backdrop. The fruit salad mingled with a solid bitterness gives a nice refreshing aftertaste. Nice pint.

Four Finger Jack - Drumhead Brewery, johndrummer Impressive hiss on opening and pours a very bright golden colour with an aroma hinting at citrus balanced with sweetness. Very little head. Dry on the nose with a subtle fruitiness and a hint of that sweetness. The fruitiness comes out in the aftertas...

Re: Reviews of Member's Homebrew
The Black Cock imperial brown stout Liam Phil & Styslow Black as pitch, lightly carbed with a thick rich chocolatey aroma. Big punch of roastiness on the nose, with coffee, chocolate and almost a burnt aspect. Red fruit hints, and the coffee develops in an aftertaste that feels like it'll go on for ...
