Re: My First TC with mega OG!

Geezah, you seem a bit expert at the OG/FG calculations. Please will you advise me; 18litres Tesco AJ made up to 25 litres with syrup containing 2.5 kg sugar. What do you think the ABV will end up?

regards

Re: Turbo Cider cost

It would be great if we could get hold of commercial quantities of apple juice concentrate, not just the half litre health food shop stuff.

All ASDA,Lidl,etc... budget juice is made from concentrate, where can we buy the same in reasonable amounts?

Re: Turbo Cider (5 Gallon)?

Dear Matt

I usually add a litre of juice as a primer. If you are using white sugar then no more than 120g I think, made into syrup first. The juice opion can add a slight haze but not always.

Re: Turbo Cider (5 Gallon)?

I usually make TC with 18 litres of Tesco value AJ and 3 kg of sugar made into syrup then made up to 30 litres with cold water. Bit of Pectolayse most times as it helps the TC to fall bright more readily, teaspoon of citric at pitching does no harm. This clears and drinks beautifully in a pressure v...

Ken, does your TC taste OK? Paulj. suggests there may be off flavours.

Alchotec Turbo 48 yeast

I bought a sachet of about 100 grammes for TC purposes. The instructions are for making a very strong wash for the still and advises to use the whole sachet and seven kg of sugar. This is not what I am interested in,I only want to make 30 litres of TC using juice and 2 kg syrup. Has any one any expe...

I went yesterday, the Welsh dry cider (I can't recall the name, it is in the restoration shed bar near the tee shirts) was extraordinarily good.

6.something% and verging on the "mother of all scrumpy"

Tomato Tang

Good M'Lord Adam,

You have achieved that which has until now escaped the wit of mortal man. I have never heard of anything fermented from tomato achieving the status of "food grade comestible". You are indeed a Giant amongst men of the Yeastish persuasion. Much respect!!

Dear BB I think this is the safest way to make strawberry wine. The fresh fruit is so full of dimples in which bacteria and wild yeasts can hide that SW frequently goes bad before the desirable ferment takes hold. Best wishes with this; SW will be a magnificent drink and just the thing to mix 50/50 ...

There are plenty of these barrels about. In Colchester, Jack's Stores sell 'em for less than £20 for waterbutts. Where can we get useable amounts of conc. AJ? A 200ltr barrel ful is not much good unless I can use someones heated swimming pool for a FV.

Tesco "Nectar"

Tesco Apple "Nectar" contains 50% AJ for 48p. Tesco Value AJ is 100% for 58p. Aldi value AJ is 52p. Look at the carb content per 100ml to work out the fermentables per litre per £. It seems wrong to pay the supplier to dilute your juice with sugar they can buy in bulk so much cheaper than you can t...

Clean PET bottles

PET fresh from the supermarket really is fine to use staight from draining the water. The beauty of still water in PET is using the contents as part of the wash you make with AJ and fermentable sugar. I have never had TC go off under these circs. Best results for me however have always been with the...

Hi PMH

I use Tesco "value" AJ, is that what you are crafting your base TC from? How many litres to the finished five gallons do you use (what proportion of juice to water) and how much sugar syrup do you add?

Cheers
