Re: Any Of You Lads ....?
Brewing all grain for me is a great way to relax, I have been doing a little less this year so I'll probably knock up a Ditch's stout to keep me covered over the Xmas period but otherwise I'm happy.

Re: SAFALE US-05 Theres no stopping it
It's a pretty rigorous yeast, I always use it for my 6% and upwards IPA and find it will get down to 1012 from 1060ish within a week or two, I do mash on the high end so it will also be dependent on what the kit manufacture did as well.

Re: Gloopy beer!
I would suggest that you bleach everything with a 10-15% concentration for a few days, starsan then try again, unscrew any taps etc and make sure they go in as well.

Re: Fly sparging question
A copper manifold drilled with holes would work just as well.

Re: Sorachi Ace?
I think it depends on the year, mine are from 2012 and taste of coconut, I think the 2013 crop was the lemongrass used 100gms in a strong porter and it turned out very nice, made a good mix with the dark malts.
Not sure about the newer crops.

Re: Using out of date malt
I used some malt my dad bought in 1979 up until 2003 (If i remember correctly), I would use it.
Edit:sorry, I was referring to dry malt, pale malt, crystal, black etc. will stay good for a while, I find the more roasted the malt the longer it lasts.

Re: Pressure Barrel Basics
Finally got around to buying myself a pressure barrel after doings about 7 kits and getting sick of bottling! £20 delivered off Ebay so not expecting too much! Anyway couple of questions, firstly what exactly does the c02 do? Just protect your beer from going off or does it add any carbonation? It ...

Tea towel will do the job too, just put a elastic band around it.

I'll have to give this a go, do you still get the "bittering" aspect to the beer?

Re: Dried English ale yeasts
I used S04 and S05 exclusively, SO5 is my main go to since I make a lot of hoppy pale beers where I want a neutral tasting yeast, S04 for bitters and dark beers since I like a bit of a yeast profile. I have used Muntons and Muntons Gold but usually avoid them since I don't like paying for 5gms, wish...

Re: My syphon is being attacked!!!
Bleach solution will kill 99% of germs, sodium Met will I've had my syphon's over six years and no infection.
But getting a new one now and then doesn't hurt.

Re: Simple Cheap and Tasty, Raspberryade
Hya TM, it is Sorbitol 70%. Got it from the homebrewshop but not sure how much to use yet, going to have to find a bit more out on it. :-k Thanks. The only thing I know about Sorbitol is that it used to be used in sweets or diabetics; my dad always said if he ate too many they resulted in a nasty c...
