Re: Grainfather increasing batch size

I have done this a while back before I had a grainfather so your experience may vary. It does work well as a technique but you may experience slightly lower mash efficiency and lower hop utilisation. Whether you want to compensate by adding a little extra grain and hops is up to you. I didn't bothe...

Grainfather increasing batch size

I've been successfully brewing a really tasty light hoppy session beer with the grainfather for a while, I try to brew whenever the opportunity arises but its not enough so I'm considering brewing larger batches on a brew day. Before splashing out on a bigger system I am intending to try brewing a h...

Re: Beer engine + polypins

I have successfully used a beer engine with polypins for years, there are different types of bags and with the right ones beer will last for month's. The ones I get are from 'Jigsaw baginbox' they are double skinned and for once only use, I keep them in a cool box so don't need to buy the cardboard...

Re: White Rat, Rat Brewery

This is a favourite of mine and I'm brewing similar beers at present, though I'm adding crystal malts for a bitter sweet body, my guess is that it has gelena, cascade and citra hops

Re: Purging lines

with a bit of planning perhaps simply vent the fermentation co2 through the hop rocket to purge most of the o2, it will require unsealing of hops earlier, but once purged and ports plugged the whole assembly could be put in the freezer til primary has completed. That's an option I've considered in ...

Purging lines

I would like to try hop torpedo'ing with a hoprocket and fastferment conical, this will obviously require purging the lines with co2, as I don't use co2 I have nothing for this.
Being a co2 virgin can someone recommend or suggest what I should be looking at for this purpose of just purging

Hopping Gale 4.1%

I've been a member on here for quite some time and I did reintroduce myself earlier this year when trying to decide which way to go with the all in one all grain systems. I cant find my previous post on this but anyway I went down the Grainfather route with a hoprocket and fastferment conical I actu...

Re: Demijohn vs bottles

I'm looking for cheaper-than-barrel option myself, I have bottles all over the place in the garage. I might try these bag in a box things, although I'm still reading up on their suitability for ale kits. http://www.pubshop.co.uk/catalog/beer10ltrbrownsquarebaginboxpolypinpackagingfrom-p-2903.html I...
