Re: Starting OG.

Hi StoutSreve,

Unless thinks have dramatically changed in the kit world, the Scammoden Dark is a 3kg kit that you've added 1kg of sugary stuff to, where as the Coopers kits are only 1.7kg, hence the significant increase in gravity!

Rock on.

Re: AG#38 - A Pale Endeavour

What made you consider 5% aromatic malt? I've not used this malt before and not seen it in many recipes but was thinking of using is to make a dark English ale a bit more fruity, hence the question? Hi, It's supposed to enhance the malt flavour in a beer. Funny thing is, I was aiming for a British ...

AG#38 - A Pale Endeavour

Well, I find that with most things in life, Preparation Prevents P*** Poor Performance, so why didn't I apply that statement to this brew? I have been busy sorting out my back garden under the supervision of Mrs Monkeybrew over the last few weeks/weekends and have found it hard to fit in another bre...

I did exactly the same thing with my malt pipe & it's never been quite the same since. The top seal is so tight, even the miniscule amount off circular causes havoc.
I'm planning to brew tomorrow, so will find out how awkward I've made things for myself #-o

Cheers

Re: AG#37 - Special 70

I checked the gravity on day 13 and again today on day 16 and it seems constant @1.014 giving me approximately 5.60%.

I have now added the 75g blend of dry hops and will leave @18C for another couple of days before crash cooling at 2C for the rest of the week.

Cheers

AG#37 - Special 70

Nearly 4 months have passed since my last brew, due to work, Christmas and just not having the motivation to get my backside in gear to get organised! My late Dad would have been 70 years old this week, so what better motivation than to brew a beer that I think he would have enjoyed, as even though ...

Re: AG#36 - German Mild

This brew turned out really nice, could of done with slightly more bitterness for me, but certainly an interesting easy drinker.

Re: AG#35 - Haunted Galleon (Ghost Ship v1)

Thought I would update this brew.

It's come together and smoothed out a bit now, still looks like it's come out of a muddy ditch, but I'm liking the hop combo, and the Crystal Rye is still a bit too dominating, but still quite drinkable :)

Cheers

AG#36 - German Mild

I had some odd bits of malt left, so decided to chuck them in to a bit of a user upper beer. The plan was to ferment with Safale K-97, but after asking a few questions about it, I decided that it sounded a bit labour intensive for what I wanted for this brew, so after a semi-stuck mash and a low eff...

Re: AG#35 - Haunted Galleon v1

Hi, I had a couple of pints of this brew from my keg last night after it had been conditioning for a little over 2 weeks. The clarity is very poor from the keg, even though I used gelatin in the same way that I always do, and I also checked one of the bottles that have been indoors since bottling an...

Re: AG#35 - Haunted Galleon v1

Bought a bottle of Adnams Tally Ho! the other day and noticed it was bottle conditioned, got a little excited, but thought I would check with the brewery whether this was the real deal or a bottling strain. Fergus very kindly replied saying it was a bottling strain as the real thing doesn't "sedime...

Monkey, You sound a bit down for this Beer? C`mon Mun, shape up and reap the rewards. I hope it turns out OK for you. WA Bottles sent to me will be `Taste Tested`. Yeah suppose I am a bit, don't know why really, as I am planning to refine this brew over the next 12 months  Should be a decent ...

Re: AG#35 - Haunted Galleon v1

How's this coming along? It's going ok. I only put the dry hops in 3 days ago, because I gave the brew a few more days for the gravity to drop bellow 1.014, but that didn't happen so it has finished a bit higher than anticipated. The sample jar colour looked a bit darker than I think it should be, ...
