The plywood skin is complete. It feels like it's starting to take shape now :D

Awesome build, really coming together nicely. Just been out to my plain boring shed to tell it to pull its socks up.

Are those hinges on the pub side window so it'll fully open?

Re: Hog's Back T.E.A. Clone - Beginner's Questions

Hey Marc, I recently tried to make something similar to T.E.A. From my notes it was basically recipe B but I used up some spare dark crystal (350g) and some molasses to get the colour. I also reduced the early fuggles to 35g. It came out pretty close in colour and smell but the taste was different, ...

Re: Brewday with Cricket

Was about to comment that 21 batches was a massive output over the year. Just checked my own backlog and I'm fermenting number 20....

Crumbs its been a long, but tasty, 12 months.

What's being made today? inquiring minds must know!

Re: Adventures in Kreik, Keg fermentation and Spunding Valves

I've managed brewing a standard bitter on a Saturday and it in a glass by the Friday. Its certainly drinkable at that point but you'll see a massive improvement whilst getting down the keg. My last several batches have just saved 500ml of the trub which gets dumped into the next batch. Its saving a ...

Toffee ale

A friend recently passed me a bottle of 4.8% 'Toffee winter ale', from a well known budget supermarket, with the challenge of trying to make up a batch. It seems to be a standard winter warmer with heavy toffee and little hop flavour. Not trying to get an exact match but more a toffee winter ale. I'...

Re: Small batch automation?

Many years ago I looked into this after seeing the brewbot (spoiler: it didn't end well for them). https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/cargo/brewbot-the-smart-brewing-appliance The basics of it seemed a straight forward set up that they over complicated. The gastronorm pans seemed a good off the sh...

Re: what's the next step from kits and plastic?

I do like shiny stuff. It's not so much money is no object, but i'd be a bit against spending £70 on an urn, to then not use it once I've bought the GF - so may as well make the leap off the bat....that's what I'm telling myself anyway. going to need more fermenting space though!! You'll probably e...

Re: Bad times on Kombucha land

I had to bin the whole batch in the end as there must have still been some nasties in all of the Scoby. But all in all that was over a years worth of booch from a single bottle I bought in Holland and Barratt. You apparently can take off the layers and put into a jar/ Scoby hotel. Tried it with one ...

Bad times on Kombucha land

Public service warning for those with a sensitive disposition not to read on; Went to start up a new batch of kombucha and found the top layer of my scoby covered in maggots. Not sure how the bug'gers got in as its always covered with fine netting and loose lid. Took some wisdom from the eld...

You ridiculous tease Barneey. Just when I think I'm done buying equipment you pull me back in.

I'll certainly have a scout about to see if there are any of the Pico C Keg's knocking around or any of the other gear too if they'll be bargains like that.

Re: Scoby one-kenobi - kombucha brew day

I had overbought hibiscus flowers when making a saison so thought i'd use them up. Just enough to cover the bottom of the bottle with whatever juice is in the house at the time. When I'm particularly lazy I dont even bottle the batch. Just sticking down the lid on and dispensing from the tap. Even t...

Re: Scoby one-kenobi - kombucha brew day

Love this. You can always add a 1/5 to a 3rd of a bottle of your fruit juice of choice to keep the fermented goodness but more of a soda taste.

Adding some hibiscus flowers and lemon juice has been my go to of late.

Re: Kombucha

I was told that not all scoby's have lactic acid but mine certainly has acetic acid. Came across a tip that you add crushed cabbage to add that lacto goodness.

I've been using the same beer bottles and funnels but keeping it away from my conical and ale fermentation stuff.

Re: Kombucha

One thing with Kombucha, it's a balance between very mild alcohol (less than 0.5% ABV), lactic fermented stuff, and acetobacter. #-o Now that explains why one of my batches tasted like exquisite poison. I had been just dispensing from the jar but have now switched to swing top bottles. This weeks p...

Re: Kombucha

It was a "stainless steel spigot" from everyone's favorite auction site. Similar to this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Stainless-Steel-Spigot-Tap-Faucet-For-Beverage-Dispenser-Water-Wine-Barrel-Keg-/143373227445?hash=item2161b5d5b5 I made the mistake of buying the kilner metal stand for the wilkinsons...
