Just seen that you edited your post with a bit more info while I was typing mine
Can't help you with the finer details I'm afraid, as mentioned I don't have this setup. Hopefully someone answers you because its what I'm building towards as well in the future!

Re: Polykeg to Beer Engine? The ABCs Please
Aj, It's the polykeg that asda was selling which is a mini keg with the Sankey connection. I'm not familiar with those, sounds interesting though! Definitely sounds like you want the setup DaddyLouLou was explaining earlier though CO2 bottle with regulator, to gas in of sankey connector Beerline of...

You make a very fair point Seymour, sometimes just don't see these things for yourself!
I'll still give it a week since the fridge isn't needed for that time, and it might look a little less of a muddy puddle

Cold Crashing WLP570
This is my first time cold crashing, as I've only just got a ferm fridge set up. I've brewed a few beers with WLP570 (Belgian Golden Strong) before, and I managed to lager my Duvel clone for 2 weeks while I was away on holiday and the fridge was empty, and that came out lovely and clear after a few ...

Re: Wilko's polypin
Thanks Adam, thought other might be too good to be true! I guess even storing ale rather than larger would still be taking a chance though if there's a risk of it springing a leak. I've took a punt and purchased some. I don't plan on filling to 20ltrs, so should be ok :) Very interested to hear how...

Re: Wilko's polypin
I'm not sure they'd be up to the task, basing that solely on the fact that the first review says to not fill them them completely, because the added pressure causes the spigot to leak. That may be a manufacturing default in the one he had / solvable by tightening, but if its springing leaks under wa...

One thing I will say is whatever heater you get, check the thermostat ...

Re: Which fish tank heater?
I always went with a 50w fish tank heater in a tub of water, with FV stood in that.
Benefits of not having to sanitise something else before putting it in, no ruined beer if the casing was to crack or anything.

Re: mounting a Mrlard sight glass
Excellent, those silicone washers are pretty tough so can take a fair bit of tightening anyway.
Now the fun of calibrating it!

Re: mounting a Mrlard sight glass
I'd go with the threaded nut -> metal washer -> silicone washer -> boiler wall -> elbow. The metal washer acts as a bigger collar for the nut to let it properly compress the silicone washer and form the seal

Re: Aluminium v Stainless Boiler
As I'm finding out the hard way with my heat exchanger made from an aluminium lined pressure cooker, copper + aluminium + water = electrolysis, the aluminium will corrode and plate onto the copper.

Re: eBIAB Dual Purpose HERMS/Chiller Build Thread
Took her out for a spin again today. All went well, efficiency was much better than the first trial batch. I even found time for a few photos. The brew was a new dubbel recipe that I've dreamed up, with 7 different malts (pilsner, munich, wheat, crystal, aromatic, chocolate, special B) and some cand...
